Reality Check 2
Need some ideas for Category 2 CME outside of journal reading. For some reason it is tough this cycle. I don't see drug reps, don't go to drug dinners and there aren't any during COVID. I read - A LOT. Any thoughts on other creative or unusual things that have flown as Cat 2 for others???? Administrator rev ronin Posted June 15, 2021 Administrator Share Posted June 15, 2021 I teach EMT students, initial and refresher training. Psych CE that isn't CME counts as cat 2, too. But I hardly even bother recording Cat 2 since I'm routinely doubling if not tripling, the annual CME requirements solely using Cat 1, and in that case, Cat 2 is totally optional. CAAdmission
Are you near a PA program? See if they could use a lecture. You can also get cat 1 and cat 2 for being a preceptor for students.
sas5814
I know I can go look it up but is it hour for hour precepting? I have a student now and I'd like to kill off my Cat 2's real quick
thinkertdm
I just do a 100 of cat 1, usually through uptodate. Maybe you could document your huddles each morning? Do an in-service with your pact, about something. 1

GetMeOuttaThisMess
YouTube has a ton of Cat I CME lectures that you could watch for free and claim Cat II. I gave up after accruing about 10 hours because I just didn't care anymore and thus retired my license.
Moderator EMEDPA Posted June 15, 2021 Moderator Share Posted June 15, 2021 precepting is hour for hour as far as I know. I always have a PA student and work 24 hr shifts, so I max out my cat 2 (50 hrs) for each 2 year cycle within the first week of each cycle. You can now claim a max of 20 credits, and you get 2 hours CME per FORTY hour week. https://www.aapa.org/cme-central/aapa-cme-accreditation/category-1-cme-for-preceptors/

I'm aware, just not sure why there might be a radical hour differential between 1 and 2. If you claim it and they don't care, good on ya.

Nothing but a money maker for all the organizations.

To the preceptor it's totally free.
