Guest Nasaazi
Are you going to be working there as an active duty person or as a civilian? ... and yes, definitely learn a little German language and get off base!!! I will actually be on active duty for the Army at Baumholder. Any info about day to day would be wonderful to have. I will definitely be getting off base and learn German. That is the main reason why I choose to go to Germany instead of Hawaii or some other location stateside. I have heard it is not much different from civilian side. Moving patients in and out quickly. 20-30 patients daily for sick call, including dependents. Any other insights?
Guest daniel.clark15
Hello Everyone! I am Doc Clark and I am a recent Navy vet. 2003-2008 HM2 (FMF) 8404 (Devil Doc Oorah),8483 (Surgical Technician) 3DBN 1st Marines 3DBN 6th Marines 3D Medical BN Naval Health Clinic Great Lakes, LPO Ophthalmology Dept. I was in the Navy for 5 years and I just got out in Aug of 2008 and I finished my B.S. in Healthcare Management and decided to get out and be a Civilian and work on my science reqs for PA school at Riverside, CA. I currently reside in Santa Barbara, CA and work as a scrub tech at the local eye center in town. I have been comtemplating for a long time to becoming a PA during my service as a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy. I have made my decision to pursue this dream. It also reaffirmed that this being a PA was my calling after my last tour in Iraq in a Surgical Company. I had such a great learning experience and then I knew that I wanted to be a PA. God Bless those brave souls that I served with and I treated in my tour as a corpsman. Even though I learned alot and trated many peope from the LZ in triage and manageing their Airway andother tretaments in the ER to first assisting, retracting, suturing, and cutting out shrapnel in the OR. That was the last straw that inspired me want to become a PA. Oorah to all my Navy and Marine Corps Vets and the rest of the sister service:). OrthoSurgeryPA
Hello all, I have recently come across the PA Forum website and I wish I knew about it when I started school. I should be studying for boards, but we all need breaks right? So here is my introduction... Currently a 91WM6 Reservist E4, trained at Ft Sam and Walter Reed. Wanted to provide more patient care then my LPN license allowed so decided to pursue the field. Recent graduate of Malcolm X College PA program and will obtain MMS December 2008. Currently studying for the PANCE to be taken SOON. Commissioned as 1LT leaving for OBC and then off to Baumholder to realize my dream. Can't believe that this is happening :D Any advice from any vets who have been in Germany, especially Baumholder? Would greatly appreciate it. Proud to be one of many wearing the uniform. Welcome to the forum. Are you in the SFU MMS program?

Guest Nasaazi
Welcome to the forum. Are you in the SFU MMS program? AFmedic2PAC, I am in the SFU MMS program. I highly advise anyone interested to jump on this program. Even if you do not have a Bachelor's degree, if you are in a sister PA program you can complete the course work and receive your Master's degree. I have one more class to complete (hopefully before I go to OBC) and I wil graduate MMS. How did you know? Are you in the program also or are you considering entering the program??? Coop8va
Hello, I'm still very early in the process but hope to apply to the Navy's PA program next year. I'm prior Air Force for 9 years, and I've been in the Navy for 3 years now. Believe it or not I'm in field of music not medicine but have always wanted to do this. I believe I'm good with my prerequisites, so we'll see. Looking forward to talking with all of you! Nick

devildoc0311
Hello Y'all I was enlisted in the Navy Oct 2001-August 2007 (had signed up 2 weeks prior to 9/11!! lol) July 2002 - July 2005 2nd BN 5th Marines 1stMARDIV Deployed OIF 1 2/03 - 9/03 Deployed OIF 2 Ramadi 9/04 - 4/05 July 2005 - August 2007 NH Bremerton, WA Staff Education and Training Department While I was at the hospital in WA I started attending a community college and over the course of 2 years I completed 1 full year of core courses, since I wanted to be "safe" and take my science courses at a 4 yr university. I got out in the summer of 2007 and started full gear at Georgia State University and will be majoring in Bio. I have 2 more 18 hour science course semesters left and I plan on applying within the next 5 months. In the mean time, I'm attempting to get as much shadowing and volunteer hours knocked out. I lucked out since there are two great programs within 1/2 an hour of where I live, Emory and Mercer:D
