I didn't know what my chances were at all but I applied as soon as I could reach 1000 hours. I've talked to people who are much more qualified than me who say that they are waiting another year to have a *really* great application. I would tell them to at least try for this fall! Also, something I found that helped me tremendously was getting a lot of interviews (even though I only had one acceptance). Just being able to practice interviewing at so many schools I think really helped me to do well at GWU (that was my 4th interview). It's expensive, but if you have the funds, try applying to "easier" schools so you can get interview practice!

If you are on the fence you should apply, I didn't have the strongest application but if you get even one interview you have a chance. If I didn't apply I'd have to wait at least another year, saved myself a lot of work.
taotaox1
Since I can no longer edit my post, here is my little tip/advice for getting into PA school: Group Interviews: From what I can tell the group interview is about how you work as a team, not the results your team produces. The question/discussion topic in the group interviews I went to were borderline silly... proof that they don't care mostly about your actual response (unless it is crazy or tragic in some fashion....). They want to see that you can work well as a team, that you can be supportive, that you can come to consensus or respectfully disagree under stress, etc.. Remember, you are a team and you want EVERYONE to look REALLY good. Part of the rational behind these group interviews seems to be that you will be working in a team environment as a PA (school, pa-physician relationship, nurses, etc etc etc). Make sure to talk each other up, be encouraging, and don't take things TOO serious. If your team is laughing, you are probably doing well. Beforestarting your prereqs, get advice from a counselor or department chair on thebest class choices. Make sure theclasses are FOR SCIENCE MAJORS. If yourundergrad GPA was low, work your hardest to do well in your prereqs. Don’t hesitate to get a tutor for organicchemistry. Get a book and read onlineabout PA school interviewing. Grlpa12
efhalsey.......... Your stats are almost exactly the same as mine except I will have about 2000 hours of HCE by the time I turn in my application. I am very curious to see what happens with you. If anyone has any suggestions about where to apply or on anything else for that matter please let me know. Those stats are very similar to mine. I do plan on acknowledging my low science GPA in my essay. I actually experienced an illness which certainly affected those grades. After surgery, however, I made mostly A's (only one B) in the rest of my classes and worked my butt off. Still scared that I don't have much of a chance. Any suggestions? I'm trying to apply right now!

marvi1kd
I have a 3.4 gpa, only 300 hce hours, scored a 1070 on my GRE, have 53 shadowing hours with different PA specialities and am involved in leadership roles at the university I attend. I'm worried about my health care hours, but I am very knowledgable about the profession. I encourage people to shadow! It is very helpful and you learn a lot. I personally feel so much more ready to be a PA from my shadowing experience than working as a CNA. Anyways do I stand a chance? I always see people post about having a really high gpa with low hours or people with low gpa's and high experience hours! What about the guys with stats in the middle of that??? Tell me what you think please.
