Yes, apply! Even Yale's webpage says in their last class, they accepted students with as low as 100 hours of HCE. You have done a great deal of shadowing, and you should use your personal statement to support your knowledge and sincere desire to be a PA. Don't let numbers drive you away from your dream. Apply. What do you have to lose? You're competitive in every other aspect.

I was curious if I have a chance.... I think my stats are ok but I want others opinions. I applied last cycle and got in nowhere, not even an interview. This time applying I would like some feedback to see what all I can do to improve my chances. Please let me know what y'all think.... I appreciate it. Thanks

First off - apply earlier - don't wait until September or December, you should be applying in May or June, especially since you are done with your undergrad.

Secondly - I see your GPA as being the big thing hindering you. It barely meets the minimum requirements for most places. You could consider taking more sciences classes to boost it, or doing a 1 year medical masters program like they have at USF.

Thirdly - apply to more schools! Unless you are limited geographically, I don't see any reason to only apply to three.

Thanks for the response I appreciate it! Yah... I do think that applying late in the cycle was a crucial error. I have considered one year masters programs... as this could help increasingly. I'm not limited geographically either... I think I'll utilize all three of these this round... still need to submit the CASPA app now though... still running behind one that..... :(......

thanks :)

It's funny how much I originally looked at this thread, but then completely forgot to post when I actually got into places this winter/spring.

1st GRE: Not Required

Direct Patient Care : 80 hours patient transport at MGH, 120 hours shadowing/volunteering in a low income primary care clinic (the PA wrote a special letter to each school suggesting that this be counted as HCE because she made sure I was hands on in most appts), 2000+ hours of rural healthcare research (100 hrs were international at the CDC in the Republic of Georgia), was certified as a Basic EMT in MA, but didn't do anything with it by the time of application

Schools Applied: UNE, MCPHS- Boston, MCPHS- Manchester, Franklin Pierce University, Chatham University

Application Submitted Date: July 2011

Schools Received Application Date: August 2011

I'd be happy to answer any questions- I certainly felt very lost throughout the process and was wildly surprised that I got in on the first round because of my lack of direct patient HCE (which I am making up for now by working as a health coach in my 8 mos off between undergrad and grad school!).

I really am wanting to get into Mount Union, but I don't know what to expect because my grades seem really low compared to others on the forum. I transferred schools in the middle of my freshman year which took a toll on my grades. I am graduating a year early from taking large course loads, so I hope they look at that and take that into consideration..

Any suggestions??

Already received TWO rejections! What do you think my chances are for the other schools? I am trying to stay hopeful but I got rejected from two schools where I thought I might actually receive interviews. I think my low science GPA may be a huge factor.

What do you guys think? Thanks!
