GMarie
**UPDATED** Undergrad Ed School: UNC-Wilmington (BA Psychology) Cumulative Undergrad. GPA: 3.58 Science Undergrad. GPA: 3.98 Graduate Ed School: UNC-Wilmington (MA Psychology); East Carolina University (MBA) Cumulative Grad GPA: 3.54 Post Bachelor Science GPA: 4.00 Age at application time : 37 1st GRE: I think it was around 1000 or so, I took it in 1997, so I had to retake 2nd GRE: 147 Q, 153 V (Not great, but I really didn't want to take it a third time!) Direct Patient Care : (type & hours) Clinical Psychologist - 11,000+ hours Shadowing Experience: Shadowed primary care PA for 24 hours Extracurricular/Research Activities: Completed psychology grad school thesis, volunteered with Special Olympics Schools Applied: 16!! Way too many, but I wanted to increase my chances as much as possible! Application Submitted Date: CASPA submitted 8/01/12 Schools Received Application Date: Around 8/06 or so Interview Invites: University of Pittsburgh, Saint Francis (in PA - Declined), OHSU, MEDEX Seattle, Quinnipiac, Emory, Duke, U of Utah, Pacific, UNE (Declined) Denied: Arcadia (Delaware campus), OHSU, Pitt, Duke, Drexel, UTSW, Stony Brook (I submitted my application much later to this one and I think I was just too late) Withdrew Application: Pacific (was on committee hold), ECU, Baylor Accepted: MEDEX Seattle, U of Utah, Emory I'm going to Emory!! Attempts: first Advice: If you are financially able and not absolutely tied down to one location, I absolutely recommend applying broadly - but maybe not to 17 schools! Travelling got pretty expensive! I mainly applied to so many because I was concerned that I would have problems because my experience is not strictly medical, but that did not seem to be a huge factor for most schools. I was honestly shocked that I got as many interviews as I did. I really loved MEDEX, Utah, and Emory, but Emory just felt like the best "fit" of the three. I think it was very important for me to actually go to as many interviews as I could so I could see the schools and meet the faculty and current students. Programs that I initially thought I would love quickly dropped to the bottom of my list while programs that I wasn't so sure about went to the top after seeing them for myself. I think it is important to feel comfortable where you decide to go since you will be spending so much of your time there. Good luck!

marktheshark89
Sumarachi, you might get a better response by starting a thread under the Pre-Pa section, as I believe this is intended for people to post stats and schools they were or were not accepted to, not for those who haven't applied yet. Anyways, I think you look quite competitive. Make sure you get strong LORs, retake the GRE if it is emphasized for the programs you are interested in, and have your PS reviewed by several people before sending it out, and I think you are in good shape.
