I never even got an interview at Albany (or FP or Drexel). My Yale interview went well, but I was really turned off by the attitudes of some of the current students and I didn't think I wanted to go to a school that allowed/promoted that kind of culture. Duke mostly went well, but I got slammed for shadowing for "only" 2 shifts. My response that I have 11K hours of direct pt care experience and in several of my jobs work side by side with both PAs and NPs didn't seem to impress them. Northeastern just wasn't a good fit for me. I almost didn't go back for the second day of interviews.

Yale was my first choice hands down. My second choice was OHSU, which was an awesome program and really hard to get into. I was not very excited about Cornell or Midwestern after interviewing there. Patient care experience seemed to make a huge difference since I had none for my first attempt and didn't get any interviews, then was much more successful on the 2nd attempt after working full time for one year. The programs seemed to like the fact that I learned Chinese in college. Doing something unique like that to set yourself apart from other applicants may be very helpful.

Score! Where'd you put the fact that you're bilingual on your app, or did you mention it at the interview? I'm applying this next cycle and am bilingual in Mandarin too.

It was a long process.

1 I felt like I was growing beyond the paramedic field.

2 I wanted to be able to do more for my patients than I was allowed to do.

3 I looked around and realized that I was as smart or smarter than many of the doctors and PAs I knew, and if they could do it, why not me?

4 I looked at Med school and nursing, and I decided that I didn't want either.

5 Due to the economy, I had not had a raise in 6 years. I was working 2 full time jobs to make $75K a year.

6 I was eligible to retire, so I decided that it was time to take my life in a new direction while I was still young enough not to be stuck where I was.

I was wondering what my chances will be. I am 46 and will be 48 when I apply. I have been a paramedic for over 20 years. ACLS,PEPP,BCLS,PHTLS, PALS, and AMLS Instructor. I am the program director for a paramedic program. I hold a BS in CRJ from IONA College. MY GPA at IONA was 3.425 overal under grad was about 2.7. I basically tanked everything out of High school. I am currently working on my MA in Emergency and Disaster Management and will have that completed by the end of the year. I currently have a 3.943 at my current institution with 12 credits to go. My last 35 credits put me with a 3.75 GPA Aprox. I just need to go back and take care of my science classes. When I completed my medic it was a certificate program and not a degree program. If I maintain a 3.2-3.5 in my sciences what would be my chanced in getting into a program. I have well over 60,000 hrs of direct patient care. In addition I worked in the Asian continent running a remote medicine clinic. I have had one bad grade over the last 4 years. That is when my Dad was dying from cancer and I had to go take care of the funeral
