GreatChecko
How often are phone calls made for interviews? Thanks in advance!! It's pretty random, but they do seem to go out in batches. Just from what I've seen here in past years, at least once a week, if not more often if they are trying to fill a spot for an upcoming interview group. I wish you all the best! woodsters
I agree - random, but in batches from now until end of November. There is no way you can predict or assume anything. They don't call in the order that the application was completed. People applying after you might interview before you and vice versa. You are just going to have to hang tight and wait. futurePAfromMA
I was denied an interview due to overly competitive GRE scores. Best of luck to everyone out there.
elope17
I was denied an interview due to overly competitive GRE scores. Best of luck to everyone out there. What were your GRE scores, if you don't mind?
arosswoods
@futurePAfromMA How did you find out about the denial? Did they contact you or did you call them or something? Would you mind sharing your GRE score? Mine is terribly lopsided (165v 144q) but I've heard most schools aren't too fussed over them I guess UF is though. woodsters
I think most schools realize that the GRE is not a good predictor of success in graduate school. HOWEVER, with going on 2000 applications they have to have a way to decide who gets interviews. HCE hours, GPA, and yes GRE factors in. I am surprised that they are notifying people that they don't meet the cut off. In the past they waited until the last interview and then sent out letters saying thanks for your application but it was "a competitive year". I feel that letting you know now that you won't get an interview is actually "kinder/gentler" than giving false hope that you might get one in the future. As for arosswoods "lopsided" GRE - that should not be a problem. Your total is more than 300. I will say that most GREs for PA school are lopsided in the other direction with a high quant and low verbal. Good luck!
arosswoods
Thanks woodsters. I still can't help but feel like I'm not getting an interview. It seems weird I haven't heard anything in the few weeks since they confirmed that my app was complete. I graduated with a 4.0 and have about 1400 HCHs. Maybe something in my essay makes them think I'm not a good fit for their program, or the quant score.
lab14
Stay patient and positive Arosswoods. I was in the same boat as you and received a call earlier this week to schedule an interview. :)

GreatChecko
The number I've always heard in the past is a magic number of the 50th percentile and I think 3 or 4 on the essay. However, I haven't heard of where that sits this year. In the past, the gre score has been a cutoff and all that was looked at was that the applicant wad above a certain benchmark. arosswoods
Maybe this isn't part if the equation but do you guys think instate vs out of state matters?
futurePAfromMA
Quant score was below 50th percentile. Although my senior year GPA was 3.71 and post grad GPA 4.0 Over 8k hours of full-time HCE, 20+ hrs of shadowing in various specialities, great recommendations, volunteer hours ect... Very competitive applicant pool. Also 2nd year applying to schools. Hope this helps
arosswoods
Wow. Did they email you? I'm out too if they want 50th percentile in quant
woodsters
Your quant score is probably good enough. If anything, it might be a breath of fresh air to have an "articulate" (ie high verbal!) applicant :-) It's way early to worry about weather or not you will get an interview. The process is really just beginning!
woodsters
And being out of state won't hurt at all. Most students who go to UF are from Florida but it does not imply that they are given preference. It's just that it takes a Floridian to fully understand the quality and the value :-) In state tuition makes it a very reasonable choice and often out of state students, although accepted, choose to go elsewhere because another school is more affordable. Keep in mind that out of state students can often get instate tuition for their second year so that will equalize the tuition burden.

Katelyne
I do not know if this matters, but I have an interview and my quant score was in the 44th percentile at a 151. My verbal however was higher, 153 in the 59th percentile. So my total was over 300. So my GRE scores were not all that great, however I think other parts of my application are stronger. arosswoods
Well this is confusing. All this speculation won't make a difference anyway I guess all we can do is wait and see.
arosswoods
Also I think woodsters is the most optimistic person in the world. Like Rob Lowe on parks and rec
woodsters
I'm not much of an optimist - just a realist. The reality is this.... human beings, not computers, decide who gets interviews. Guidelines are used to make the decisions but guidelines can be overlooked if the person making the decision feels compelled to do so. A computer would just assign everyone a zero or a one and spit out a decision. That is why speculation, anxiety, asking for others stats, worrying about why people who apply after you get invited before you, etc, are just merely futile. Don't lose hope rather spend your time waiting doing something useful. If it is meant to be, it will happen. If you've done all you can do to prepare, well, you've done all you can do. Hang in there and good luck!
GreatChecko
Well this is confusing. All this speculation won't make a difference anyway I guess all we can do is wait and see.Exactly... It seems that this is in flux. The relatively recent GRE score change doesn't make things any clearer, bc there is only two years worth of data.
arosswoods
But you know woodsters, people react to their own success in one of two ways: either they decide they are better than others or they see their accomplishment as a way to inspire others and you do the latter. And that's really cool thanks for the encouragement.
