I picked this school because of the early start date and it was the first place I heard back from and interviewed at. I am a candidate who received a bunch of F's D's and C's in my early college years when I didn't even know what a PA was. I had to work double as hard and take a lot of extra classes, retake a lot of classes and so on to ensure that I got all A's to raise my gpa the way I did and show consistency in my academia. I also knew I had to further stand out with health care hours, shadowing and volunteer work. I am proof that if u want it bad enough you will work hard enough and you will get in!

Environmental Design (Architecture) Post-Bacc School: University of Colorado Denver, 2016 B.S. Biology (in progress, will graduate May 2016) Cumulative Undergrad GPA (including current post-bacc): 3.36 Cumulative Science GPA (including current post-bacc): 3.78 Post-Bacc GPA: 3.91 CASPA Verification: Submitted 6/26, verified 7/12 (had some hiccups and had it sent back twice or would've been 7/8) Age at time of application: 30 GRE: V 159, Q 149, W 5.0 (308). Crappy Q score but I didn't feel it was worth retaking, and I doubt this is what hurt me in applying. HCE: 400+ hours volunteering in ED, weakest point of my application clearly, but I was an architect so this is how it played out. Shadowing: 60h in emergency medicine with a PA, several surgeries with an anesthesiologist. Research: 200+ in stem cell labOther: 1200+ as a biology lab instructor LORs: 1 ED PA, 1 health careers advisor/4000 level course instructor/academic boss, 1 long time academic boss/3000 level course instructor. Interviews: Midwestern, Colorado, Chatham, Idaho State, Concordia, ASHS, Findlay, High Point, University of Toledo Waitlist: Midwestern, Chatham, ASHS, Idaho State, Concordia Wisconsin. Rejected: Touro, South University (applied too late), University of Colorado, Wichita State Withdrew: ASHS, Concordia, Idaho State University, High Point, Toledo. Haven't heard from: Cornell. Accepted: Findlay, Midwestern Attempt: 1st I gambled applying with very low HCE this cycle. If I hadn't gotten in I was going to complete an EMT course and find work as a tech, work for a year, and then reapply in 2017 to gain some more hours. Always good to have a plan B. I attribute the interview invites to GPA and very strong LORs from professors I have known and worked with for over three years, and I attribute the waitlists to lack of prior HCE. Although I tailored my schools to those that required none or very little, there are still a lot of people applying that do have HCE and they will likely win out in most cases (rightfully so, most of the time). I interviewed way back in early September at two of them and was accepted to my top choice right away. It made the decision to turn down the other interview offers pretty easy and my wallet appreciated that as well. The strong point of my application was definitely my HCE. I made sure to demonstrate just how valuable it was in my PS as well. On top of that, I had some incredible LOR's that helped my case as well in landing interviews. Hope this information helps others! Good luck and congrats to all of those in for this cycle.

That round, I got interviews at every place I applied (UNMC, U of Iowa, U of Utah and Texas Tech). I wasn't accepted anywhere and I was devastated. I decided to change career paths thinking that PA school wasn't meant to be, but as I became an EMT and the further I got in my career, I realized I was in the wrong profession. I was accepted to USD where they do not require the GRE. I also would say that they are the best fit for me out of all the schools I applied to, as they place a strong emphasis on underserved primary care areas. The best advice I can give is: 1) Apply early! My first go around, I applied within days of CASPA opening. This time, I feel like I waited too long, especially for schools like UTMB. 2) Research programs that are a good fit for you! I wasted money applying to places that were NOT a good fit. 3) Try and try again! 7 years passed between application cycles for me. In that time, I experienced a lot of life. Looking back, I can say without a doubt that I was not mature enough to be someone's healthcare provider at age 20. Maybe you are, but I wasn't. I needed to live a little and strengthen my skills before venturing down this path. Best of luck to all!

Attending: Anne Arundel!! Attempt: 1st I wanted to write this to give hope to those of you with lower GPAs and those that are wait-listed. I honestly didn't think I'd get any interview invites but I got 3. I think what helped me was applying early, acquiring direct patient care hours, applying broadly, and working in a well-known hospital where I could work directly with PAs. I also prepared a lot for my interviews. I bought two books, wrote answers to practice questions, had people mock interview me, practiced in front of a mirror and filmed myself lol. I also talked to PAs and PA students I worked with for tips. The more you interview the better. Don't give up and apply early!! And you can get in off the wait-list!! Good luck to everyone.

I don't really think that I needed to apply to so schools, but I honestly thought that my stats were pretty low for admission. I thought i interviewed well at each school, but I was waitlisted 4 times after interviews. My best advice is to really research every school that you're applying to, and make sure that you can discuss your HCE and experience at each interview. Coming from California, my ability to relocate to each school was a big talking point at my interviews, so be prepared to defend your decision to move if you're applying and interviewing out of state. Thirteen44
I can't really say re: chances. I think the major thing against you is how late you're applying / have applied. I know that A.T. Still has filled their class for example; I was invited to interview with them in mid-November and then got an email three days later saying all spots were filled and I could either interview for the waitlist or withdraw. I applied to a lot of schools and thought it would be a success if I could get 3 interviews, knowing how competitive it is, but the opportunity to have 6 and then turn some down was a blessing that I couldn't even imagine. Congrats to everyone and good luck to everyone else. Hang in there.
Neurobics
I can't really say re: chances. I think the major thing against you is how late you're applying / have applied. I know that A.T. Still has filled their class for example; I was invited to interview with them in mid-November and then got an email three days later saying all spots were filled and I could either interview for the waitlist or withdraw. Good luck! Oh I'm talking about applying in the next application cycle. So CASPA 2016 and beginning the program in 2017
Thirteen44
Oh gotcha, sorry! I must've missed that. Definitely apply as early as you reasonably can for the schools that do rolling admissions.

spflynn4
My overall GPA is a 3.5 and my science GPA is only a 3.3... I got a 317 on the GRE. Do I hace a decent chance of getting in right after undergrad or should I plan on taking a year off? What kind of hce do you have? Those sound like my stats, so it's possible to get in if you have a good amount of hce.
kk22
@spflynn4 I have around 900 hours volunteering with hospice, 75 ish hours working with injured athletes in my college's training room, and 800 hours volunteering for a crisis hotline. (From what I can tell some schools will count that, some won't). I also have recently gotten a job as a resident care assistant at a group home, so I'll have like 320 hours there before I apply and that will be ongoing
