Besides an increase in hours as a scribe the only thing that changed on my stats was who wrote my reference letters(this year they're much better& from doctors who'd known me for a year, and both schools that accepted me made mention of how great my references were) & of course I tweaked my narrative, so the intangibles are likely most important. But last year I was verified 9/3, so apply early is still good advice.

To all those who are discouraged, don't be! I approached this application cycle with so much fear and anxiety. I really doubted myself, particularly because of my age and my lack of experience. But I was able to impress the adcom enough to be granted seats in some great programs! You guys can do it too :)

How hard was it to get a job as a medical assistant? Did you get a certificate? I'm a little hesitant to put on my resume that I have a B.S. degree because maybe they'll think that I don't plan to work as an MA for a long time...

When I graduated college, I started applying to jobs for medical assistant. I was not certified, and I had no experience. Still, I got a job as medical assistant, they trained me and I always told them that I was planning to go to PA school. Many doctors will be willing to train you, if you have a positive attitude and willing to work when they need you!. So just apply to jobs and best of luck!! Don't hide what your true dreams are and a lot of people is always willing to help you!

Age at time of application: 48  (Just turned 49)

Agree with rainyday;  write and rewrite and rewrite and rewrite an excellent essay.  Get great letters of reference.  If at all possible get your letters from PA,MD,NP that can speak to your clinical skills.  All of my letters came from people I worked with on International health care teams.

If you think grades are the only way in, think again.  Look at my gpa.  Barely at the level that schools will even look at an application.

My thoughts if you are meant to be a PA you will be.  There is a program for you.  Find it.
