pfonseca509
Hi I am a pre-pa student and have been looking into schools. I see that there is a medical clearance form of immunizations that must be met. However, I received a kidney transplant awhile ago and have been on immunosuppression for some time of life and therefore I am not fully immune to MMR since I have received the immunization when I was a child. I was wondering if there was medical clearance waiver. If anyone has knowledge please inform me. Thanks
pfonseca509
Hi, I am a Pre- P.A. student and I have been recently going over everything that I need to apply. I have come across a dilemma due to the medical clearance immunization requirements. I received a kidney transplant and have been on immunosuppression for awhile now. I am aware that I am not fully immune to MMR due to that I received the immunization as a child and now no longer can receive a live vaccine. Is there any medical clearance waivers that can be applied to my current circumstance. I appreciate any feedback and help. Thanks
cop to pa
I'd think that would be up to the program. You know: risk versus reward/ liability. I'd contact some PA programs and ask them.
loliz
I would bring this up with your transplant provider at your next appointment. They can make recommendations and also may need to be in direct communication with student health at your school so that both sides can be comfortable with the immunization status/plan. UGoLong
I would start with a letter from your transplant specialist indicating what vaccines you can and cannot receive. I suspect this will be honored everywhere you go. At some time in their lives -- perhaps all during their years of services -- providers will also be patients. We need to appreciate and honor that in each other.
Moderator True Anomaly Posted May 14, 2016 Moderator Share Posted May 14, 2016 I moved your first post to the appropriate forum- the pre-PA forum. We frequently do this anonymously because many posts are made in the wrong forum. Posting this again in the original forum is not appropriate. I am moving this one more time, because you obviously have a genuine concern. But please do not repost a third time, and consider the correct place to post - there are different forums for a reason
