J PA App
Thanks! I was just waiting for tunafish to respond because she is a current student and may know someone with the minimum..but thank you! I spoke directly to the director of admissions and so long as the 500 is completed prior to matriculation, it is fine. During their info session, they also specifically point out to note the range of stats for accepted students. There were students accepted last year with the 500 min HCE. Hope that helps! Awesome, thank you! That gives me much needed relief about my application. I was worried I needed it by the application deadline. Thank you for taking the initiative and clarifying for not only me, but everyone on the board! Good luck to you!
tunafish
First interview is today! Good luck to all of you this year! If anyone have questions and needs an answer from an official source, Ms. Caryn Stopper is our admissions director in case you were wondering who to ask. fakingpatience
Tunafish, do you know what the "real" (not simulated) patient interview during the interview entails?
J PA App
Has anyone here heard back about interviews for this year? I got an invitation today! Congrats on the interview invite! How long after you submitted your supplemental did you hear back? I started my supplemental a couple of weeks ago, but of course my hard drive on my laptop crapped out and all of my PA application stuff is stuck on my computer - waiting and hoping it can be recovered. Anyhow, just getting anxious about my delay in submittal and the fact that interviews are filling up. Thanks!
tunafish
Tunafish, do you know what the "real" (not simulated) patient interview during the interview entails? You come and talk to a real person who is a real patient. It is very informal and I guess checks for your "people's skills"
tunafish
Is it rolling admissions? it is but they guarantee to have empty spots up to the last interview in Jan
fakingpatience
J, I heard back a few weeks after my supplemental was submitted. I can't imagine how I'd feel if my computer crashed with all the data! Were you able to recover the documents? Thanks for the explanation Tunafish... Do we talk to them about their medical care, or just a conversation on a random topic?
dchampigny
Just be yourself during the interview and you'll be fine.
futurePA2016
Agreed. The entire interview is a relatively laid-back process. The program director and staff are all amazing, and just want to see who you really are.
fakingpatience
Thanks you guys! Are you both current penn state students? My first pa school interview didn't go as well as I was hoping so I'm more nervous/ anxious about doing well on the Penn State one. It sounds like they have a great program starting there
futurePA2016
Yep, we are! If you have any questions regarding the program feel free to PM me. As for the interview part, you really don't have to get too anxious. All the interviews were more like a conversation, and they were great! tunafish
I would add that patient part should be least of your worries.
futurePAfromMA
Penn State is my top choice. My admissions file was complete on 7/28/14 and awaiting full review.
zoopeda
Does anyone know how far out Penn State has already scheduled interviews? (i.e., For what month will the next batch of interview invitations be offered?)
tunafish
The second interview batch is tomorrow. The first happened couple weeks ago. Program extends acceptances after each interview is complete. Hang in there!
ProspectivePAfromPA
Hi all! I'm new to the discussion but not new to Penn State's program. Tunafish, do you know if acceptances were offered after the first interview round on Aug. 5th? I was part of that group and was also wait listed to the program last year so I am quite anxious to hear back this time. Thanks for being so active in this forum...it's been a great help! ProspectivePAfromPA
Thanks, Tunafish. I'm guessing they've already been notified? I've been in touch with another student who I interviewed with and who was also waitlisted last year and she has not heard anything yet either. tunafish
Thanks, Tunafish. I'm guessing they've already been notified? I've been in touch with another student who I interviewed with and who was also waitlisted last year and she has not heard anything yet either. The mode of communication last year was a personal phone call from program director. Mail with deposit form came much later.
ProspectivePAfromPA
Thanks again, Tunafish. As disappointed as I am feeling right now, I appreciate at least knowing.
ls419
Does anyone mind sharing what the supplemental essay is for this program? I'm trying to assess how long it will take me to get finished, before I send my application in.
zoopeda
It's a long one. Many short essays. 8, maybe? Took me a week to thoughtfully put it together.
Ryan861
Does anyone mind sharing what the supplemental essay is for this program? I'm trying to assess how long it will take me to get finished, before I send my application in. The supplemental application consists of demographic info, prerequisite course grades, training certificates / awards, and 7 short essay questions (~6-10 sentences). It shouldn't take you more than a couple days to complete.
