CALIFORNIA: University of La Verne 2016-2017

Recommended Posts

The University updated the website and put in dates for the 2018 cohort... From what I see there have been no changes to the curriculum... I wonder what went wrong with the review.

Looks like there's an information session scheduled for August 18th. May attend it just to see what information will be covered.

As far as I know, the accreditation issues were minor, and we should remain optimistic for next year. Everything happens for a reason, I'm sure we'll be colleagues next year :)

Hello fellow prospective ULV PA colleagues! I'm glad to see most of us are all in the same boat. I plan to attend the upcoming info session as well (6:00pm Wednesday 8/16/17). You can RSVP here if you haven't yet. Hope to meet some of you there :)

Don't worry Vk209 will ensure to post any new updates from the info session! ?

Thanks! I emailed Dr Estrada and was told its not mandatory so I figured I continue working and save some money (we all need it at this point).

Hi guys I don't think I'll be attending since I have to work, but I attended last year and in my opinion the information that is going to be provided is going to be more beneficial to the people who want to apply to the program rather than us since we were already accepted. ?

Found an article that states la Verne met 107 out of the 115 standards during the review... apparently the issues were during the clinical years regarding assessment of students... hopefully they are able to fix the issues!

Can you post the link to the article please? I had heard from a working PA that it was an issue with clinical sites/year as well.

I just registered for the info session but its a little confusing as to which site it is at. The link here says Alhambra campus and the actual registration says La Verne campus, anyone else have this issue? I'm assuming its actually at the La Verne campus?

When I registered it only mentioned the La Verne campus. Same spot as when they did an information seminar in early 2016

Kinda random, but would anyone else who's going to the info session also be interested in grabbing dinner or something after? We can be each others' therapy group lol. I know a great sushi place in San Dimas which isn't too far, or a really good pizza place not too far from campus!

I guess we shouldn't go to the info session this Wednesday.

I'm down to grab a bite instead!

I signed up for tomorrow's session, confirmed it is at the main campus.  I will be driving about 1.5 hours to attend so can't do dinner after, I have to get home. :)  However, I am intrigued by the comments recently posted:   :/

1. Sbp:  "Receive Laura's email?"   Who is Laura? Maybe the post was deleted?

2. CareL, why are you saying we shouldn't go to the information Session?  Last week I called to confirm it was happening.  Has something changed?

There was an email that was sent to students who were admitted. Laura is the one of the administrative assistants.

Right.

Laura just sent an email asking the admitted students to not attend. Mainly because this information session is geared more towards students looking to apply for the upcoming cycle. It's understandable.

There will be a second information session specifically for the students that were accepted previously. I'll be going to that instead

Received my first job offer today.  Would like some input as to my compensation package!  Thank y'all in advance for your feedback!
      Location: Los Angeles
Practice: working closely with one physician, mostly surgical FA with pre and post op care, some wound care that requires travel, and some work in the cosmetic clinic; currently projected at a 6 month intensive training period but physician is open to tailor it based upon my progression
Salary: $95k for the first year with government standard mileage if I'm doing house calls or traveling between clinics, no guarenteed raise that I'm aware of, opportunity to restructure to base + % of collections once I'm productive, no salary cap
Hours: likely 50+ hours/week based upon what current PA works, will take call and round on hospital patients on the weekends but am able to request some weekends off if I feel that I need some free time (physician states they may consider splitting call and rounding between myself and the current PA)
Benefits: 3 month probationary period, 401K with match, health insurance (HSA) with 3600/year employer contribution, 10 days ETO for the first year that I begin accruing day 1 but cannot use until after probabtion, I will be added to the practice's existing malpractice policy +/- tail coverage, medical center parking covered by employer
No CME allowance or dedicated time off for CME (expected to go to affiliated hospital for free CME or request employer to pay for CME on a case by case basis)
DEA required but not paid for by employer.
State license and associated fees not paid for by employer.
I'm not so sure the physician is open to negotiations on this contract.  May possibly increase my salary if I give up some benefits.  PA that currently works for physician says the physician is a fantastic educator and states I will learn an enormous amount.
My dilemma is that my salary seems far below average/median salary for new grad California PAs (115k based off AAPA salary report), however, this offer is on par with 0 to 1 year experience plastics PA salaries reported in the AAPA salary report, though the statistical population is very small (n=7). I know plastics is hard to break into as a new grad and the experience I would gain is invaluable but given LA has such a high cost of living, I wonder if I should hold out until another job offer with higher pay comes around.  It seems very possible that my salary may increase rapidly after the first year if I truly put in the work but that hasn't been directly stated.

Wondering if anyone has any experience/information/thoughts UCSF Fresno, specifically this ACS/Trauma Surgery Residency. Considering relocating for the opportunity. New grad, I liked what I saw during the visit. Not looking for some one to make a decision for me, but any information would be great.
      Thanks
