What POST-BAC PROGRAMS DID YOU ATTEND??

Advice to applicants: If you have questions about programs, call and ask for answers! Impressions you get from them (and they get from you) on the phone and when you meet them in person are probably important. Apply to the schools you're interested in, but keep in mind which programs you are qualified for... for example, I didn't apply to places that wanted 1000+ hours of patient care experience. Different schools have different philosophies on who will make the best students and PAs. Good luck!

1st GRE: 1260 (V:600, Q:660, A:4.5)

Direct Patient Care : Nutrition Counseling @ CSU health center (24), Diet Tech in Hospital 900

These are not generally the types of patient care exp schools are looking for, so I applied to schools that did not have a requirement for direct patient care. However, I did shadow several PAs, which I think was crucial in proving that I knew what I was getting into.

Extracurricular/Research Activities: Volunteer at health fairs, Research volunteer for children's education programs aimed at defeating childhood diabetes and obesity (Food Friends/Mighty Moves; Program Energy)

Schools Applied: UCHSC (Denver CHA/PA); Univeristy of Toledo; Saint Francis University (Loretto, PA); University of Wichita; Idaho State University

Schools Received Application Date: Can't remember, but it was maybe a couple weeks

Interview Invites: Invited to all I applied for

Denied: Idaho (I think the fact that I wasn't impressed with the video lecturing and virtual anatomy showed through)

Withdrew Application: Wichita

Waitlisted: UCHSC

Accepted: Saint Francis; Toledo. I will be attending Saint Francis in May!

State of Residence: Colorado

I hope this gives encouragement to those who think they don't have enough medical experience to get into PA school. While it's probably true, you can't just expect to get in with the knowledge you gain reading US News report, people do get accepted that do not have the traditional medical experience. You just have to find the right schools for your qualifications.
