Guest tbowlin
I am applying to PA school next month and am wondering how competitive an applicant I will be. I have looked at all of your stats to give me an idea. I don't know anyone else who is applying to PA school or who is a PA to tell me where I stand. I really don't want to spend the money to apply if I don't have a good chance to get in. Can any of you give me your opinion. Education: B.S. in Biology, B.S. in Chemistry, M.S. in Biology Graduate GPA (the school uses graduate GPA if Master's degree earned): 3.8 GRE: 900 overall 4.0 in writting (I know, not good, this is what worries me) Direct patient contact: 5 years at the hospital as a Phlebotomy Tech and Lab Assistant, 1 year as a Polysomnographic Tech Research: 1.5 yrs. as Chemistry undergraduate research assistant Volunteer: 3 months at The American Red Cross working the food pantry Feel free to be honest, let me know what areas need strength and if I should apply to PA school or save my money! kadida
I have taught the cadaver based lab for only a year. I have taught the intro to anatomy course for 4 years. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Both were at WMU were I am currently enrolled as an MS student in the biology department. The cadaver based lab is a Introduction to Functional Human Anatomy for OT students. It primarily encompasses neuromuscular anatomy. I was asked to teach this course because the OT depratement did not have anyone to fill the postion, I had 3 years of experience teaching the Intor cousre and mostly.... they could pay next to nothing. The intro to anatomy course taught through the Bio dept is geared toward nursing students and premeds and focues on a general intorduction to human anatomy. pilot1974
If I can do it, anyone can with enough hard work. I screwed up when I was an undergrad. I was working full time in the ER while carrying 18+ quarter hours each term. I was young and thought I could do everything. After several years as a drug rep I knew that patient care was where my heart was. I worked hard to retake the prereqs for PA school while working full time as a rep (which is more hours than many providers may think). I was recently downsized by my company since the drug companies have finally realized that there are too many reps out there. At first I was wait listed by Pacific. I just received my acceptance today. If you work hard, anything can happen. Undergrad Ed School: University of Oregon Cumulative Undergrad. GPA: 2.65 Science Undergrad. tootie
Pilot, I am 35 with a ton of HCE, and while I got straight A's with my BS degree, my 2.6 GPA with my associates degree (when I was young:)) drags my cum undergrad GPA down to a 3.28. My post bac work so far has been a 4.0. I keep feeling that I will never be accepted because I don't have a 3.5 or higher...You give me hope. Congats to you!!!
