RandomD
Thanks for the info. I thought they had selected about half of the class during the first round, but sounds like maybe they didn't.
Kdicello
@ randomD I think the first round might be considered July and the first half of August, through the 15th, because that was the last possible date for me to select from when I received the invitation (on 7/1). So you may be correct!
RandomD
Ok. That sounds about right. I think Chandra said something similar. Did you get accepted, kdicello?
Kdicello
@ randomD, I'm waiting to find out!! Even though the first wave is taken from those 6 weeks, I interviewed in August and will be notified with that month's candidates.. I'm hopeful but don't want to get my hopes too high :]
jaaldana
I was told that those candidates who interviewed in August would hear about a decision in 2-3 weeks. Good luck to all!
efhalsey
@Jaaldana it was nice meeting you on Thursday! Good luck to you, and all the other August interviews - just a couple of weeks until we should know! They told us half the class was full as of Thursday, however 4 people have declined their seats. They are accepting between 26-28 students this year. The interview was really relaxed, the staff was extremely friendly and it is very clear this will be a top notch PA program. Can't wait to hopefully hear back soon!
jaaldana
It was so great to meet you too! I fell in love with the program as well. It will be difficult to wait 2-3 weeks for a decision. Good luck!!
MEDwar44
Just curious for those who have interviewed if they have announced where the clinical sites will be?
soxman352000
Clinical site possibilities include the cities of Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville, and Chattanooga. There is no guarantee that you will have to go to all those cities, but it is a sure bet that you will have some of your rotations in Memphis (at least that's how it was presented to me). Hope that helps!
MEDwar44
Thanks Soxman352000!
Kdicello
To add to the rotation info- there will not be any rotations outside of TN! I asked about potential clinical sites and was told that new legislature prevents students (for this program at least) from pursuing out of state locations. MEDwar44
Thanks for the additional information on clinical sites Kdicello!
JMann
UT medical students do rotations in Memphis at Methodist Hospitals(there are four in Memphis), Lebonheur Children's Hospital, Memphis Mental Health Institute and the Regional Medical Center at Memphis(The Med) which includes a level 1 trauma center, burn center, medical ER and Rout Women's which has one of the best neonatal facilities to be found. Christ Community Health Clinics here in Memphis also receive quite a few UT residents. It is a low income/needy primary care clinic. These are just some of the sites in Memphis alone. Memphis has a large, fairly unhealthy population in all areas of medicine so doing clinical rotations only in Memphis wouldn't be a bad thing. I'm sure the PA program will have numerous clinical opportunities across the state and perhaps some students could pursue a unique clinical opportunity and get it approved. RandomD
JMann - Do you know if St. Jude is (or will be) used for any rotations?
MEDwar44
JMann thanks again for the feedback on clinical sites! I'm from a small town on the East end of the State, and we have some hospitals/clinics (but not enough to meet the demand). In addition, our local hospital receives patients from southwest virginia, southeast kentucky, and other portions of rural appalachia with the majority being very low income families. I hope to get into UT's program so that I can come back and actively serve in the East TN region. I think UT's program would offer great teaching, great clinical experience, and a highly motivated/well-rounded group of students. Again, congrats to those who have gotten in!
