My VA isn't hiring anyone that I am aware of.

The onboarding process is a nightmare - takes months - fingerprints, background checks, credentialing, a physical, urine drug screen.  Everything has to go through a compensation panel. It is not easy.

Not sure where they are looking.

They are asking for volunteers from our Primary Care to go work in UC right now.

Was this on usajobs.gov?

That is the result of NPs gaining essentially full practice authority within the VA while PAs were screwed by our own.

About a year after VA PA’s were basically screwed by a leader, I spoke with a VAMC PA Association level person to ask if they were going to pursue or attempt independence again. He basically said they were doing fine as is. Wish I could recall the name, I’d call him and ask what he thinks now. This is and has been the mind set of so many PA’s. This is the reason PA’s are stuck as Assistants and barely want to advance to Associate level. I hope that individual and all other VA PA’s realize it is not fine and actually do something!

It's very easy to become complacent when you earn a comfortable salary and are told to your face that you are respected, while behind your back these same individuals ridicule you.

You are fooling yourself if you think this is a title issue.  I have thought we needed a title change for over 30 years, but this has to do with privileges  Real or perceived.

I do not understand how anyone could think that privileges are not associated to title. You, and many of your colleagues have wanted a title change for years, Why? Because you are a provider who has the ability and knowledge to treat patients, often with supervision only on paper?  Because the title does not reflect to service you actually provide? The perception of PA title is  preventing, or at best making increased privileges more difficult to achieve. It is a privilege issue, however the real perception of people who can change those privileges is that PA’s are not providers who can or should practice without delegated supervision or collaboration.  Not saying title will magically make everything better, but a title that is easy to understand and separates you from the appearance of forever needing a physician would sure make gaining privileges much easier.

EVERYTHING starts with our title....Everything.  Just ask the Florida PA's and the ignorant responses they got from lawmakers when we were cut out of the latest NP victory there.

Assistant/Associate = Imminent and impending death of our profession.
