University of South Carolina PA Program 2017-2018

Recommended Posts

Hi, guys! I looked around and didn't see a new topic for this year's CASPA cycle for USC, so I started one here.

I submitted my CASPA application on May 10th, received an email to do the supplemental application on May 11th, and submitted my supplemental application on May 11th. Now, I'm just waiting to hear back!

Hi! Thank you for being on this forum. Do you know when they will be starting interviews and offering interview invites?

I also got an email and I was invited to interview on June 23. I responded back to the survey that they sent us but I haven't gotten anymore information. Has anyone else received an email with more details about the interview?

Good luck to everyone on their interviews!!  I just submitted my app today. I submitted most apps back in May but USC just told me they'd still allow me to apply even though my last couple pre-reqs won't be done until December 16th instead of 15th. So excited. My dad went to USC for undergrad.

What were the timeline and stats  for those who received interviews?

Hey ya'll! I accepted an interview date for July 21st. I live in Columbia, if anyone other applicants would like to meet up for dinner the night before or explore the city after interviews please let me know, I would love to get together to try to lessen the stress of interviews!

Awesome!

What are your favorite things about the program/what made you choose USC over any others?

Hotel recommendations? Interviewing on the 28th.

Thanks!

I have an interview on the 28th as well.  Can people from the 21st please report back with information regarding their interview.  Hey global PA, see you there.  I will have a red and blue tie on.

Can you please shed light on the nature of the MMI interviews(how intense, actors, roleplaying?)?  Also, what does USC SOM do better than any other schools.  I am so excited and ready for this interview, I have been working for almost 3 years to apply.  Thanks so much!

They have not given out any acceptance yet as far as I know. They told us (the 1st interview group) that it would be 4 weeks plus some days before we heard anything because they wanted to have another set of interviews before they accepted anyone. In my interview group there were 15 people. I would be careful digging for info outside of what they gave in the interview packet in order to keep it fair for all the other applicants. I can say that the purpose of the MMI and individual interviews is to measure non-cognitive abilities. Therefore, you won't be asked to solve any math or science problems. Be yourself and you will do fine! One of the really cool things is that you will see their ultrasound center!

Please keep us posted.

Did they say how many students would be in the matriculating class?

Greatly appreciated!

To the people who are interviewing today, what timeline did they give you to hear something back? I still don't think anyone from the first group has heard anything back yet and it has been 4 weeks.

Will I be completely overlooked if I answer yes to academic dishonesty question on CASPA?
My senior year of undergrad I took an management online course. There was an ungraded assignment that I didn't think I had to complete. To my dismay, the professor stated in his syllabus that the failure to complete this specific module to the best of our ability would result in being reported as academic dishonesty. Needless to say, he reported over 100 students.  I had zero intentions of cheating. It was an act of laziness-- if anything. The assignment itself was ungraded and didn't even go towards my grade to begin with.  I was just given a written warning for "the failure to comply with instructions." I tried to appeal but the professor was trying to make a point to the class. I still received an A in the course.  However, I understand that I must answer yes to the academic dishonesty question.
I am discouraged and worried that this mistake will cost me my future as a PA.  I am not sure how to explain what happened in only 500 characters and have them believe that it really was just that and not me trying to put a positive twist on my actions. The rest of my application is fairly strong. It will be two years since this occurred when I apply. Should I be worried? Will PAs even consider me? Any advice would be appreciated.

I started a job as a CNA in a hospital shortly after submitting my CASPA application to schools. However, since it is a current position that I plan on staying in until I start a program, how do I maintain my CASPA application, specifically the "number of weeks" section required for the experience? I do not have an acceptance this cycle as of now, and I want to keep schools I haven't heard back from up to date. I don't know whether to put in 52 weeks in that section since I will be there for approximately one year from my start date even if I get into a program this cycle, or just keep updating it every week that goes by? Right now I have 52 weeks in that section with a disclaimer explaining my start date and plans to keep the position until I start a program in the "description/key responsibilities" section under it. Please share your own experiences, I can't be the only one in this dilemma! Thanks in advance 🙂

I was checking my verified application & I have “Punjabi” listed under “native language”.  On CASPA my response to “first language” was “Punjabi”.   To clarify, I am fluent in English. (I’ve been speaking English since I was 5!! I answered to "first language" quite literally.) Will I run into any problem with PA programs? Would they assume otherwise?   --I was born in California and went to schools K-12 in Cali and then Uni of Cali, Santa Cruz for undergrad. Has anyone else experienced this?
**The application is locked & I am unable to change it to English**

      Hi All!
I am a graduate student in public health and have worked with providers to inform patient care plans as well as screen patients for adverse childhood experiences, resiliency, quality of life, etc... I have not been an EMT, CNA, Aid, or other roles that are usually seen with direct patient care experience for PA schools. I have already submitted my application, but after attending an information session I am nervous that schools will not count my public health hours as patient care (I made the mistake of listing them as health care experience and not patient care experience). Does anyone have any thoughts on this process? I have already reached out to one school directly and added the experiences as patient care experience in CASPA (it lets you do this even after submission, but I do not know what happens next). I do have a lot of healthcare experience and research experience. Have anyone else added experiences after they submitted? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to private message if that is better for you. Thanks so much! I really appreciate any support with this!

      Hi guys!
I recently graduated and I am working on my CASPA application. I am super nervous about my personal statement.
I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me some tips/ pointers on how to format it, what to include, and what to omit.
I frequently second guess myself, so any opinions would be helpful.
      I really appreciate any help.
Send me a pm if possible!
      Thank you,
      Ahuva
