  1. Hello everyone! I thought I would start a thread for this cycle. Waiting for my transcripts to be received by caspa and then I plan on submitting.
  2. Hi! I'm curious what other people have done in the past/suggest for adding collegiate athletics to CASPA? It was a huge part of my 4 years in college, and I was also a captain so I wanted to include the leadership aspect to my application but I'm not sure how to enter accurately. If I add being a captain under leadership experience, it requires me to select "Volunteer, Academic, or Paid". I currently have my sport entered under "Memberships" but I'm open to changing it to something different. Any suggestions/insight you could offer would be great! Thank you in advanced!
  3. Hey good people! I hope you’re all well and healthy during this COVID-19 outbreak. Just wanted to start this early and see your progress on the 2020-21 PA applications!
  4. Thought I would get this started, anyone submit yet? I submitted my CASPA on 5/12, supplemental 5/13, and GRE on 5/13 as well!
  5. Does anyone know how long it usually takes for Professional Transcript Entry to be completed? I paid for the service before finding out that it might be more time saving to do it yourself. I submitted my CASPA on 5/16 and now I'm just an anxious ball of energy waiting for them to enter my courses.
  6. I am currently on deployment with AMR in New York. I was wondering how I should count those hours on my CASPA application?
  7. Hi all, can someone please tell me my chances of being invited to an interview or give me suggestions as to what I should do to improve my application? I would really appreciate any input. I’m applying next cycle (2021-2022) thank you in advance! Btw I calculated it the way caspa would using ThePAPlatform gpa calculator. cGPA: 3:77 sGPA: 3.3 ~1400 hrs as a CNA ~200 hrs as a behavior therapist (it was cut short due to COVID and I have to move back home hours away) I just got offered a job at the front desk at the chiropractic office I’m getting treated at (I recently got in a car accident and couldn’t get my old job back as a CNA) but this would count as HCE! I could potentially do this from May until late Sept and work ~24hrs/week. -Medical mission trip over winter break -Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society - Multiple deans list - Chancellor’s award (scholarship) -Tutored children for a semester (~50 hours) - Vice President of my pre-pa club, and was an intern for this club before getting accepted to this position. - I also plan to rack up more hours once I move back to my university Any feedback is appreciated, thank you!

    Experiences

Earlier this year I attended a PA school virtual fair in which multiple people said you want to be as descriptive as possible in your "experiences" tab on CASPA. I have worked several CNA jobs with different companies, but the job and work I did was basically the same. I'm looking for some advice... should I be redundant so I don't leave anything out in the work I did or should I try and pick out things that are more specific to each job? For example I worked in two nursing homes as a CNA and then as a traveling CNA with 2 agencies at the same time. Anyone able to give any feedback? I feel as if copying and pasting my job descriptions wouldn't look very good.
  9. I was wondering has anyone submitted the Caspa for Yale online and what are the three essays that they require like and what are they over? Also has anyone taken the Casper and what are the questions like and is it as difficult as people make it seem? Trey
  10. Hello everyone, I am new to this site and I would really appreciate if I can receive advice. I have an undergraduate GPA of 3.045 right now this is prior to my spring semester grades being placed in and I project my GPA to raise but I guess not much since I will mostly have A's and B's. I am also graduating in December so I have one more semester. What makes me nervous is that Yale requires prereq's that I don't have yet (Micro, A&P I AND II, and Biochem) but I have the statistics portion. Luckily, Yale doesn't require any labs for the prereq's. Yale's minimum GPA req is a 2.8 however, CASPA hasn't calculated my GPA yet and based on what I've heard a CASPA gpa is way lower than your transcript gpa and I want to be competitive. Not to mention that I am a psychology major which is already not the usual biology/chem. My major (science undergraduate) is a 3.5. My plans were this summer to take these classes at a community college while completing classes towards finishing my degree at my usual university. The reason for this is due to COVID-19 and my school deciding to continue remote learning via ZOOM. My university doesn't have the best science professors from what I heard and what I seen (taking chem which I got an A in). I figured community college whose curriculum is already set up as online would be much easier for me to pick u in and CHEAPER of course. I say all of this to ask if it makes since to put myself through all of this in the summer if I may not get an interview based on the fact that my regular GPA is 3.0 and even if I take all of these classes and receieve a 4.0 I doubt my CASPA gpa will be raised by that much. My PCE (Paid) is 2000.
  11. I went into CASPA to continue filling out applications and saw under Evaluations that it said "The last date to enter Evaluation requests for this cycle was 4/1/20 11:59 PM EST." I was completely unaware of this, I have confirmed that I am getting my recommendation letters from people, but did not know I had to add them in as Evaluations in advance. I'm not sure what to do there is no option that says add evaluations anymore? Not sure what to do, I can't call until Monday to see what will happen.
  12. I had to retake one class my freshman year, and I really do not want to waste a few sentences in my personal statement to speak about it. Although, I also understand it is best to address it somewhere. Is there another place on CASPA to discuss shortcomings on your application? I do not see a place, but I want to make sure I am not missing something.

    Waived GRE

Hi, I was looking around on google and couldn’t find any direct information, but I was curious if anyone has a comprehensive list of schools that have waived the GRE due to the current situation afflicting our nation? Any information would be great. Thanks!
  14. Hi, I will be applying to the 2020-21 cycle this upcoming April. As i was scrolling through the CASPA site, I noticed the section about conduct violations at ones university. My freshman year I received a charge from my school (not a misdemeanor, and nothing with the police) for leaving a bottle of alcohol under my bed before thanksgiving break. My RA found it and I received an alcohol charge with the campus. The punishment for this was a $50 fine and I had to take a two hour alcohol course about underage drinking. Basically, Im super stressed about this. Even though this was four years ago and I have plenty of other things going for me on my application, I am concerned that this will prevent me from getting any interviews/acceptances. I feel like I will be placed in a pool with everyone else who checks "yes" to this box, and will make it harder for me to be accepted. Any advice on this matter or past experiences would be gratefully appreciated
  15. I am applying this April and I’m very nervous. Can anyone give any tips and guidance about anything in regard to CASPA?
  16. As someone who has a noncompetitive GPA, I am considering pursuing a Master's in Biomedical Sciences to show programs that my study habits and academic performance has most certainly improved. -Does anyone know if grades received in a master's program help boost the overall GPA? - Would the science courses taken at a grad level count for PA school pre-reqs? -Any tips/advice from those that have taken this route? I appreciate you taking the time to help
  17. Hi guys! I recently graduated and I am working on my CASPA application. I am super nervous about my personal statement. I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me some tips/ pointers on how to format it, what to include, and what to omit. I frequently second guess myself, so any opinions would be helpful. I really appreciate any help. Send me a pm if possible! Thank you, Ahuva
  18. Hello everyone, I will be applying to schools this cycle and I am beyond excited and nervous. I just wanted to create this group to share our progress so far and where we're at in terms of application timeline. Feel free to share your experiences, thoughts and any questions. Let's help eachother out! Goodluck everyone
  19. Hi, everyone! What are your thoughts on applying to programs with a ARC-PA probationary accreditation status (i.e., "Accreditation-Probation")? I'm a first-time applicant, and a couple schools that I have my eye on currently have probationary statuses (Johnson & Wales University; Monmouth University). I was wondering if it's worth applying to said schools, especially to ones that have had a probationary status for more than two years. Although these schools are still considered accredited, is it safe to apply to & then attend these schools? Do these schools prepare students to become competent & trustworthy healthcare professionals? Are these schools worth the debt? My concern is enrolling in a school with probationary accreditation and graduating as a sub par PA-C, but those are just my uncertain sentiments at the moment. Moreover, I've read that applying to these schools may be advantageous to some who aren't considered "strong applicants" (e.g., average grades/GRE). On the other hand, I've seen "strong applicants" display their admiration & loyalty to these schools here on PA Forum. I'm confused! Let's open up the discussion!
  20. I am sure this has been asked before, if so, please forward it to me. But when writing out the description and responsibilities of your various experiences, should the format be a list/bullet point or more of a thoughtful written out paragraph? What I have so far (in an excel sheet), is a list of my responsibilities with a small blurb of something I learned during that experience. Here is an example of one of my work experiences: Active duty Navy, worked in hospitals on land and sea Prepared operating room for surgery In charge of setting up sterile supplies Assisted the nurse and/or PA in positioning the patient on the operating table Prepped the patient by shaving, washing, and disinfecting the surgical site Applied sterile surgical drapes on the patient Passed surgical instruments to the physician Assisted the physician during the surgery Sutured incision site Applied wound dressings Learned that each member of the operating room team, regardless of education level, plays a vital role in the patient's safety Any advice/experience is much appreciated Emily
  21. All, Just wanted to let you know from last years experience so you don't have the same issue. Background: Wanted to hit the Aug 1 deadlines, so submitted and was verified prior to deadline. Had transcripts and other items from summer that arrived at CASPA after application was verified. Two Items to note: 1 - Any grades after verification will not be updated into the GPA calculation (I can understand that). 2 - CASPA will update the file, however if you submit another application, CAPSA sends the original file to the school - Not the updated one. YOU will need to inform the school to go get the UPDATED file, otherwise they will still see your original file. I did not know this and may have missed out on schools looking at what I thought was an updated file only to find out later, that they were not seeing the updated version. If I would have known this, I may have either waited (missed the Aug deadline) or more than likely told the schools they had to go into the system to see the latest file (CASPA's advice). I found this out too late for last years cycle....Posting this so others may avoid this. Good Luck!
  22. I was checking my verified application & I have “Punjabi” listed under “native language”. On CASPA my response to “first language” was “Punjabi”. To clarify, I am fluent in English. (I’ve been speaking English since I was 5!! I answered to "first language" quite literally.) Will I run into any problem with PA programs? Would they assume otherwise? --I was born in California and went to schools K-12 in Cali and then Uni of Cali, Santa Cruz for undergrad. Has anyone else experienced this? **The application is locked & I am unable to change it to English**
  23. Hi All! I am a graduate student in public health and have worked with providers to inform patient care plans as well as screen patients for adverse childhood experiences, resiliency, quality of life, etc... I have not been an EMT, CNA, Aid, or other roles that are usually seen with direct patient care experience for PA schools. I have already submitted my application, but after attending an information session I am nervous that schools will not count my public health hours as patient care (I made the mistake of listing them as health care experience and not patient care experience). Does anyone have any thoughts on this process? I have already reached out to one school directly and added the experiences as patient care experience in CASPA (it lets you do this even after submission, but I do not know what happens next). I do have a lot of healthcare experience and research experience. Have anyone else added experiences after they submitted? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to private message if that is better for you. Thanks so much! I really appreciate any support with this!
  24. I guess I'll get this started because I have a question! Has anyone gotten to the section on the supplemental that asks about the other PA programs your applying to? Do you know why this information might be relevant? I haven't been asked this question by other schools!

    CV/Resume

Is it better to use either a CV/Resume or is either fine? Does anyone have any information on what a good CV would look like?
