How to get HCE?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I'm nearing the end of my senior year of high school, and I aspire to be a pa in the future. I start school in the fall. My question is in regards to HCE. Simply put, where do I find it? Do I have to get certified? If so, does getting into a program at cc during the summer before school starts somehow put me at a risk of having my admittance to that school canceled? I've searched the forums, and haven't found much. Any insight is appreciated.

Just like you're other thread said - take a look around the forum.  This question has been asked and answered 100 times before and you are posing it in far too broad a light to even attempt.

You'll benefit from browsing this forum and a host of other internet sites geared towards PAs or PA wannabes.  Try and do some self-searching before you post to get generic answers directly.  We aren't google.

You are correct, you're not Google. You're a pa forum. But isn't that precisely the point? To ask about being a PA and the education that is required to be a PA from the direct source? I've looked around and(I doubt it's just bad searching skills) I haven't found precise answers to my questions that apply to my circumstances. If you know of a thread that has the answers, then just link it to me. Otherwise, if you're annoyed with the content of my post, then just simply ignore it.

My point is: there is plenty of information on this forum (this doesn't even put a dent in the threads on HCE). You may have to search a little to answer your question, but if everyone who wanted to become a PA asked their *individual* question each time, this forum would be overrun. Being a self-starter is a quality that will serve you well in life. Maybe browse a little and see what's already here before jumping into the deep end.

The usual suspects consist of emt-b, ma, and cna. Also, you can check around campus as there might be a pre health club that can help you. I personally volenteered at a medical office and worked so hard they had to give me a job.

wow. How long did you volunteer for them to feel compelled to give you a job?

1) Depends on the position...EMT, CNA, MA, etc., yes. There are options for HCE that don't involve a certification, but they aren't generally viewed as favorably by PA programs. Admissions are very competitive, so this definitely could matter.

2) I can't imagine that it would. Many certification classes for positions (EMT and CNA come to mind immediately) are often continuing education (no college credit awarded) rather than curriculum courses. But for the definitive answer to this question, you'll have to check with the school you're planning to attend.
