I am currently working in neurosurg, and employer would like the PAs to begin taking call on weekends. Was just trying to get some feedback from others in surgical specialties on what type of compensation structure I should negotiate for, i.e. straight fee, pay-per-case, etc. Thanks

I cover call for vascular surgery at level 1 trauma hospital in Raleigh nc. I am not involved in the OR, just cover consults, and managing pt's on floor. It is not "in house call". I round on pt's sat/sun and do any consults that come in while I'm there or non-emergent called in night before. Typically 2-5 hrs rounding depending on the pt load. Go home once done, don't come back till next morning unless emergency case called. Fri 5pm-sat 7am is flat 150.00, sat 7- sun7 is 300.00 & sun7 to mon7 is 300.00. 2hrs rounding each day included in flat rate. Anything over is 50.00/hr. Also if you have to go back in for emergency then 50.00/hr also. I also cover 1 weeknight eache week for 150.00 flat. This is all extra to my normal clinic job w/ different practice. I bring in avg 1400.00 extra each mth from this which is great extra money for me!!

Took call when worked Ortho job....6 shifts a month one weekend, $200 a day

Wasn't bad when I had to answer a few phone calls, but having to go in to do a reduction, or two, or three was terrible.

I agree, you can't pay me enough. The time is more important
