As my private practice was contemplating merging with our hospital we did NOT do a renewal contract & then we did not merge. Thus when I asked my practice manager about my contract recently, she said oh, that just continues! Really? So does anyone out there agree with me? That no, I'm not under any contract! Jason09 Posted August 21, 2011 Share Posted August 21, 2011 Well my understanding is on the contract there is a start date and designated time period (1 year) from that date. After that designated time period you are technically out of contract and either work outside of a formal contract or re-negotiate. I would tend to stray towards re-negotiating IF you want to stay there for another year. I would be suspicious if they are unwilling to re-negotiate. Moderator ventana Posted August 28, 2011 Moderator Share Posted August 28, 2011 they want it to continue so they don't have to give you a raise the reality of the situation -the only time you have real leverage to get a raise is before you get hired -the next most important time is when your contract is up (and yes it should be for a specific period of time) - it is now time to sit down and meet with your employer to discuss the terms of your new contract - insist on it otherwise you are just an at will employee and can be terminated anytime! Now how can I fix it? Can I? If I can't fix it, what is the standard time to give a notice? 30/60/90 days? This I checked & is not in my contract. Moderator ventana Posted September 5, 2011 Moderator Share Posted September 5, 2011 giving notice - no shorter then the number of weeks vacation - ie 4 weeks vacation means you have to give 4 weeks at min. I would say 1-2 months is a reasonable time - any more then that and it is just too long. BUT getting a new job lined up in 4 weeks is really tough.... sit down and talk to your doc/mngr about your feelings and give them a chance to make it right... but be aware that once the cat is out of the bag (you leaving) things change... and not for the better..... of if you have a job already lined up - hand in a letter and move on..... njsurgpa Posted September 9, 2011 Share Posted September 9, 2011 It sounds like you really want to leave rather than attempt to renegotiate? If that is the case, take it from me, adding more money will only temporarily heal negative feelings about the job, then you will be back to square one. Don't necessarily worry about what your Sp wants as a notice, as long as you give what is fair and professional. Average notice times are 4-12 weeks depending on your situation. If you truly want to leave and change states, start interviewing on your own time, and when you feel confident about a position, give 4-6 weeks notice (it generally takes that long to get credentials at a new hospital), or you can wait until your new license has come in, and then give notice.
