  1. check out kaiser. They take a lot of students and hire a lot of new grads.
  2. couldn't hurt, might help. If you have it, they may let you do more.
  3. DM patients may have 1 of the following: A high blood sugar B low blood sugar C hyperlipidemia D hypertension E obesity Choose wisely.
  4. Agree we Scott and RC2 above. Passing as well, but it is a terrible test. A lot of "fist actions" that are done in reality are not even options. I also had to look up a lot of weird meds that I have never heard of ( and I used to teach pharm to first year PA students). Awful test. I think the answer is to allow a CAQ in one's specialty to count for recert purposes.
  5. I see you have 10/10 pain from your hangnail, are allergic to all non-opiate pain medications and get a rash from morphine. Please proceed to the pharmacy to pick up your box of fentanyl patches, and have a nice day.
  6. I use a combination of macros, dictation, and typing when needed. I type with two fingers, maybe 20-30 words a min.
  7. We are using an add on app called PowerMic mobile, which is a phone-based app specific to each user. It does what dragon is supposed to do. I actually really like it. You log into dragon then launch the app and talk into your phone and it shows up on your screen. Very few typos.
  8. Yup. Generally polysubstance involved. we recently had to give a 120kg + drunk/meth fellow in an mva 500 of ketamaine to get him in the scanner.
  9. Agree- A specialty CAQ significantly increases your desirability as a new hire. We don't hire anyone without the EM CAQ (or eligibility and intent to test) at this point.
  10. you can work as a medical death investigator aka asst coroner. NYC and other places use PAs in this role.
  11. completing a residency in the field of your choice will give you many more options.
  12. Love this. Kinda like " slow is smooth and smooth is fast". Had an EM doc tell me that once when I was rushing an intubation and I have never forgotten it.
  13. agree. Military medics are great at military stuff. I think civilian 911 medics are more well rounded because they take care of everything.
  14. If your goal is just to get DMSc after your name, then the fastest and cheapest will do the trick. You get out of these what you put into them. I have seen some folks spend 1 hr/week on their doctoral studies and others spend 20. They get the same degree. The 20 hr guy gets more out of it.
