Lemon Bars
I know that PAs were originally conceived to help with the shortage of primary care providers. But what if you are unsure about exactly where and what kind of medicine you want to practice? Can you admit that to a PA program admissions committee? winterallsummer
Research the website first. Do they seek PAs who are going into family medicine or primary care (many schools do)? If yes, tell them that's what you want. Otherwise you can tell them whatever I just don't advise saying "whatever pays the most".
Moderator EMEDPA Posted May 21, 2013 Moderator Share Posted May 21, 2013 "I don't know yet and am hoping to get an idea during rotations" is honest and ok as well. lots of folks start thinking they will do abc and end up in xyz for whatever reason. Coast2CoastPAC
I gained almost all of my HCE in the OR, ICU and ED. So, I was very honest when I said I could see myself specializing down the road in one of these two areas. I also, however, made sure to let them know I have intentions of gaining at least 5 years of foundational primary care experience before specializing (that's for me to gain experience, knowledge and comfort as a PA). I start school in a month.
cinntsp
They don't expect everyone to know what area they'll be going into after graduation and they know that many people will change their minds at least once while on rotations. Just let them know that you're keeping an open mind to find out what fits you best.
UGoLong
Many people don't know what they want to do, but have some ideas coming in. You really won't know for sure until your clinicals. I am doing something now that was not one of the three areas I thought I'd be in. Life happens.
