Border
Looking at inviting a union into represent us at work (yup it is that bad) What unions do you have representing you? ohiovolffemtp
This is the union I've seen gather the most press for representing PA's: https://www.1199seiu.org/for_professionals
CAAdmission
I'd eat the contents of a full sharps container before I'd join a nurse's union.
Febrifuge
I’m in a regional SEIU union, and we’re negotiating our next contract now.

Febrifuge
The pay scale needs to have increases past the 10-year mark, or else they will lose the experienced people. We all need a raise, across the board, and if the revenue-earners are saying it too, maybe admin will listen. I hope we don’t need to strike, but the nurses union just had to go through a couple rounds and they did strike, for 3 days. I feel pretty okay with it all.
mgriffiths
I would recommend reaching out to a PA at University of Michigan and see who helped them unionize during the height of the pandemic. Maybe a google search would show. But, seemed to be highly effective for them.
CAAdmission
Here's another shop going union: https://www.timesleader.com/news/1593176/geisinger-cmc-nurse-practitioners-physician-assistants-vote-to-unionize It's a shame all the non-revenue producers in these systems are choosing to have an adversarial relationship with the clinicians. AbeTheBabe
I'm in a union with PAs, NPs, and RNs. Work for a large non-profit. Best paying job I'll ever get. Amazing benefits. No regrets. 1
Moderator EMEDPA Posted December 25, 2022 Moderator Share Posted December 25, 2022 I worked for kaiser when the PAs and NPs unionized 20 years ago. it was the right choice. $10/hr raises overnight( from $24-34/hr), 2 guaranteed raises/yr even if you were per diem and worked 1 shift/mo, sabbatical leave, etc. Well worth the $14/mo in union dues Just checked the most recent contract. That same job now pays $97.40/hr. 1

Union dues are up now as well (about 150/month) but still well worth it.

Someone has to push back against these insane corp policies that are only focused on paying admin salaries and keeping the money flowing.
