sas5814
Has anyone taken a CAQ in an area you don't work in and passed it simply by studying? I don't know why this popped into my head but I saw a PA ask about studying for the psych CAQ because he/she wanted to work psych and it made me wonder. I assume you can't just pop in and pass one but what are the chances of passing one based on studying alone?
brooks23
The research I've done on this was a long time ago, so please, others, correct me if I'm wrong. I seem to remember that before you can even take the exam, you have to qualify by having a certain number of clinical hours in that specialty (among other requirements). sas5814
I checked the NCCPA web site and you are correct. 1000-2000 hours of clinic time in the specialty before taking the CAQ. I'm not sure how they require you to prove that but I bet one of our members does.
Moderator EMEDPA Posted February 21, 2019 Moderator Share Posted February 21, 2019 you can take more than one if you have experience in several fields. I know a few folks who have done EM/psych, surgery/ct surg, etc.
Moderator ventana Posted February 21, 2019 Moderator Share Posted February 21, 2019 and yet NCCPA does not yet offer an IM CAQ Thanks NCCPA - let us PCP PA's get smoked by the NP!!!
lemurcatta
Can you take the hospital medicine one if, say, you worked critical care/MICU all inpatient?
