which offer would you rather take as a new grad?

Recommended Posts

option A: teaching/research hospital

pros:

  • world renowned institution
  • excellent benefits
  • competitive pay
  • great lifestyle: 40 hours a week, no weekends or call
  • working closely with an amazing PA team with great personalities
  • awesome PA manager who sticks up for MLPs
  • job stability

cons:

  • specialty is not in an area i'm particularly interested in
  • minimal interaction with SP(s)
  • repetitive, mundane work
  • unsure if skills would transfer to any future employment

option B: private practice (one doc)

pros:

  • pay is 25% more than option A
  • SP has great personality, trained at top academic institution, committed to teaching me everything he knows
  • specialty is in an area that has always interested me
  • will be adding one more PA in 3 months
  • talked to the last PA who left after 4 years(confirmed great relationship with doc, and that he's committed to teaching, and lifestyle is not bad)

cons:

  • will hold pager 1 weekend per month
  • benefits not as good as option A
  • does not have the 'name' of option A
  • less job stability?

any input would be appreciated...i need to decide in the next 2.5 hours :) thanks!

I'm sure that it helped more than one!

This summer I start my rotations so I'm about a year behind you. I'm hoping for a great offer like the one(s) you received!

wow...time flies, huh? the next thing you know you'll be graduated. if you ever want a job in houston, give me a shout :)
