josephn11
Some PA programs conduct their curricula in quarters as opposed to semesters. Can someone please explain the difference between the two systems; are there any advantages or disadvantages. Has anyone had any experience with the quarter system? greenmood
I'd think most schools would be on the quarter system... how else would you pack that much into one didactic year? Maybe I'm off base.
Administrator rev ronin Posted December 31, 2011 Administrator Share Posted December 31, 2011 Quarters vs. semesters vs. trimesters is just a method for divvying up the year. My program uses "semester" hours, has three of them per year, and we cram 127 semester hours into 27 months. Note that 12 credits per semester is considered "full time" most places, which would mean that PA school should realistically take 5 years to accomplish, and most programs do it in half the time. Rejiggering things into quarters wouldn't change anything substantive, just the numbers on the transcripts.
