trigator
There is already a thread on this floating around somewhere. It's accreditation was delayed by ARC-PA about a month after that article was released. Alumni even voiced pretty strong verbiage against the proposal to expand. https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2015/04/14/accreditation-snag-delays-yale-us-hybrid-physician-assistant-program

Acebecker
I've expressed this before and I'll say it again: dumbest idea possibly in the history of our profession, certainly within the past decade.

winterallsummer
Really do not want online PA programs. No offense to our colleagues but honestly leave that crap to the NPs.
Torshi
I don't understand how they would approve of such a program
SERENITY NOW
I couldn't believe they were actually going to get this through accreditation until I read the last line of the Yale Daily News article and now it all makes sense: "Program Director James Van Rhee is a commissioner for the ARC-PA." JohnnyM2
So, will the students get an OPA degree? Maybe this is actually a good idea. These students could be taught to face time their patients instead of wasting time and gas on office visits. The new face of medicine!

That makes more sense now. I emailed the ARC-PA and never got a response. This is probably why. Their director is pushing his own personal agenda through the ARC-PA. Makes me sick. marktheshark89
Though there is a rather large conflict of interest, it is worth noting that the arc-pa did atleast reject it on the first go around when it was going to be a "class expansion". Guest GoyaHoya69
Requestinfo.pa.yale.edu for anyone who is interested Wow, it's even shorter than the campus-based program (24 vs 28 months). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
twinpeaks12
Shorter but I hear same degree...MMSc... as on campus! 2u must have bought off the mothership. Wait until the alumni/students hear about this...
QCEMPA
The website states 28 months pretty clearly. Please read things for yourself before commenting.
twinpeaks12
LOL...technology is awesome; really believe that the information about rotations is different than when marktheshark posted the link this morning. Wish I took a screen shot! 16 rotations (3 more than the real program) but out in same amount of time...hmmm...not buying it. We will see, we will see. QCEMPA
I don't want this conversation to turn heated as past discussions of the online program have, but it is important to have accurate information in your posts. I am in the Yale program, graduating next month. We had 16 rotations, 2 of which were dedicated to completing our thesis (these rotations are not listed on the program website, so it isn't fair to not know this without personal knowledge). So both would be 16 rotations in 28 months.
marktheshark89
Also it is a completely separate program so it should be compared to those nationwide, not just to yales on campus program. The curriculum between the two will be different, not the same, as will other aspects.
twinpeaks12
Hmmm different curriculum but same degree...how will that make the grads/currently enrolled students feel?? marktheshark89 sounds like you have turned from a naysayer to a sycophant...posting the website link almost simultaneously with it going live etc. How did you get that? I am a graduate so have immense personal knowledge of the program and how this online program had been presented to community, students, school of medicine. All of my concerns and opinions are based on time spent in the program. Can you really call 2 thesis months "rotations"??? Is sitting in a session with a librarian the same as working 10 hour days on the hospitalist or trauma service. I am just presenting the facts, not getting heated. You are graduating in December then you are well aware of the multiple foibles in the handling of the announcement and the persistent conflicting information presented by Van Rhee and the School of Medicine. The Dean of the PA Program, Richard Belitsky, had even apologized for the missteps. That said money talks and 2U is willing to pay alot for the Yale name. I am not confident that there is yet full disclosure about what this program will really look like from 2U or Yale...Van Rhee and 2U has everything to lose if this is not successful. There is really nothing like PA education and I am just worried...plain and simple.
marktheshark89
I would say most current students/new grads are not in favor of the program in general, including myself. I am trying to remain as objective as possible however. Many schools offer mmsc degrees, or mspas/mpas etc and none have identical courses of study. As an alumnus we were all informed in advance what the go live date would be, that is how i was aware of it.
marktheshark89
There is no doubt there have been several missteps. Hopefully since there is alot to lose for the school, 2u, and van rhee (as well as alot to gain) they will be able to put forth a quality education. Only time will tell. True about the different degrees and not identical courses of study...but potentially different curriculum between two PA programs at the same university and come out with the same degree? Don't think that has ever happened...
marktheshark89
It hasn't, very true. Then again there's never been a single institution with 2 programs, nor an expansive online program either. Lots of firsts for sure with this program and situation.
