kiwipa
Hello all, I am a new grad who recently went on a family practice interview (large family practice in Florida). The practice is really nice and has >35 providers. However, the salary is very low based on how much they expect you to work. Here are the details: Patient load: 20-30 patients a day (average is 25) Monday-Friday (7:30 AM-5 PM) One Saturday (8am-1pm ) a month (no comp day offered for this) On call for a week once every 5 weeks (answer patient phone calls/questions) Salary: $60,000/year (not willing to negotiate) Bonus: 10% of anything charged at >$65,000 each month Health and dental insurance 401k with 3% match (but have to work at the company 1+ years to have the match) 5 days CME up to $1,000 2 weeks (10 days) vacation 5 sick days The position is completely autonomous-- it does not sound like there is much room for teaching moments. I am in need of experience but feel that they are taking advantage of new grads. Any thoughts?
GetMeOuttaThisMess
Grossly underpaid and overworked for a new grad. I interviewed for same type of position before the holidays with 30 years experience and they were offering $80K. I said no thank you in under a second. I don't like taking call, and certainly not for a week at a time like this.
Moderator ventana Posted April 22, 2014 Moderator Share Posted April 22, 2014 ugh horrible 7:30-5 is to long and to many patients of you work their requested you will see about 125 patients a week - look at the AAPA data and you realize this is FAR above the average of something like 80 9.5 hour days x 5 = 47.5 hours a week would not touch this for less then 120k with the benefits they offered WORST of all is that you are a new grad and that is like trying to run a marathon as your first race, after staring to train one month ago - just way to much..... RUN, don't walk, away from this job
LIPPER
This offer......sucks. That it is "non-negotiable" is laughable. Who would want to work with someone/group that is inflexible from the get-go? Be polite, tell them to call you if they have a more legitimate offer.

primadonna22274
Absolutely rotten. That's not an offer--it's an insult. Cross it off your list please.
WIPA-C
I will be starting PA school this August, but I know for sure that I wouldn't be accepting that kind of offer when I graduate. I mean, I have a friend who just graduated as an RN, and her starting salary is $60,000. That salary is a complete insult for a PA. I agree with primadonna22274.
