Patient Safety Aide as HCE?

Recommended Posts

Depends on what you actually do.  This is essentially my job, but I do hands-on care and do most of what PCAs do.  I work in the Float Pool and feel like I have learned/seen a lot...Adcoms have liked it, although I do do a lot of direct care and don't just "sit" there.

I wonder if this job is some way for a hospital to get around using a patient care Tech as a sitter. I mean, just sitting one to one with the patient is not really fulfilling the promise of a PCA or utilizing their skills fully. Seems like a hospital could pay someone significantly less if their only job is to be a sitter when needed, and not to do any of the other PCA tasks.
