tme12
Hi PA students- Just curious to hear what hours you have class, on average. In my program we have to be here everyday from 9-6, sometimes staying later or coming earlier. Does anyone think this seems excessive?
chiaroscuro27
My program had similar hours. Do I think the hours are a bit excessive? Not at all. PA school is tough; there's no doubt about it. But it's supposed to be that way. When you consider the fact that you are learning to practice medicine in less that three years for most programs, the rigors are to be expected. Considering that most PA student have little to no prior healthcare experience, I think the long days and nights are a necessity.
tme12
Thanks, I tend to agree with you.
PYRITE
Par for the course. 8-5 M-F with the occasional evening or weekend day. Occasionally we are done by 3:30 (especially in the summer). Of course that is just class time, not study time. I do not consider this excessive. These are similar (better) hours compared to what I worked in a hospital prior to PA school (former IONM tech). I just approach school as a job.
Moderator EMEDPA Posted July 3, 2012 Moderator Share Posted July 3, 2012 you get to start at 9? we started at 8 and were there long after the medstudents had gone to the bar.
chiaroscuro27
Yep, we had an 8am start most days. The two semesters prior to clinical year were the worst. I'd spend 12-14 hours on campus every day.
flyingsquirrel
7:30 AM, five days a week. Sleeping in is for wimps! (and by wimps I mean med students)

mjohnson3604
8-5 M-F, also lighter in the summer (didactic, cause of course there's more clinical year)!
ALombardo
My program is from 8 am to 8 pm on MTW, 10 am - 9 pm on R and 10-5 on Fridays (this is the first/summer semester)
joanna.nola
That was the same for my program: 8-5, Mon-Fri. We sometimes got out early, but we could not count on that!! I think sitting in a chair for that length of time is something most people don't consider when they go to PA school!
Just Steve
Fall quarter was 8:30 to 4, winter/spring was 9-4, hour for lunch. Few nights a month we would come in from 6-8, or just stay until 7 or so but that was less common. Currently on summer break until mid Sept.
