Moderator ventana Posted February 19, 2018 Moderator Share Posted February 19, 2018 In my email this morning..... Welcome to membership in the American College of Cathopathic Physicians! This is an exciting time for the future of nursing and medicine. Our organization was formed in 2017 with the goal of creating a new opportunity for achieving physician-level practice in primary care for qualified nurses and nurse practitioners, a pathway which has never before existed. Through this path we hope to further promote the well-being of our patients through excellent clinical outcomes and increased access to care. The safety and effectiveness of medicine delivered through a cathopathic model has been validated by over 30 clinical studies, of which over a third of these have been prospective, randomized controlled trials. These studies repeatedly show that totally independent advanced practice nurses, who by definition are practicing cathopathic medicine, have equivalent or in some cases superior patient outcomes in quantifiable metrics and have near universally superior patient satisfaction scores. By joining our organization you are helping to advance cathopathy as a unique philosophy based on our nursing heritage which guides our practice of medicine, which will allow us to further advance the understanding and science of cathopathic medicine. Over the course of decades and numerous, lengthy legal battles, osteopathic medicine was able to uncouple the concept of “physician” from exclusively allopathic medical models. Now the term physician is still a doctor practicing medicine, but this title is no longer solely owned by MDs. The education of the Doctor of Nursing Practice is different than MDs, or even that of DOs. But it is no less valuable or effective in training high quality primary care providers and substantial amounts of clinical data now supports this. In addition to helping fill this critical shortage in high-quality physicians, the role of the DNP as a cathopathic-trained physician is uniquely valuable in the pathway it creates for talented, experienced bedside nurses and talented, experienced NPs to capitalize on this experience to become talented, well-trained physicians without needing to start their educational process entirely anew. Your membership in the ACCP gives you access to the forefront of this process, helping to develop academic education standards for accreditation, competency testing, continuing education and much more. The input of our members is of vital importance to our success. DOs struggled initially to establish their right to practice independently as physicians. Allopathic medical associations frequently discounted their training and experience. In time they created their own professional society to advocate on their behalf and ultimately proved that MDs do not own the title "physician". In that same spirit the purpose of the ACCP is to protect our professional autonomy and advocate for a full, broad scope of practice for DNPs as a "cathopathic physician" completely equal in every way to our MD and DO counterparts. We must establish policies, create a code of conduct and define our professional ethics, as well as determine what educational standards are necessary to produce qualified cathopathic physicians and the accredit DNP programs to achieve that end. Of equal importance to the profession is the role of the ACCP to lobby for and help establish state licensure and interstate reciprocity, ideally working as liaisons in conjunction with individual state Boards of Nursing but potentially working separate from them on the state and national level if necessary. Thank you for joining us. Your membership is invaluable. We hope you consider active participation in one or more committees we use in order to accomplish the tasks listed above. A survey will be sent as these committees are formed to determine your areas of interest. We look forward to working with you to make our organization a success! Michael L. Moderator ventana Posted February 20, 2018 Author Moderator Share Posted February 20, 2018 That is the funnything this agency came out with a press release a while ago and i signed up for email updates (do this a lot with the nursing union issues as they tend to be on top of political issues) Figured this was a funny thing that was likely quackery but I think they are proving me wrong...... rather you agree with it or not - it is this type of push that will someday take down AMA and the protections of MD/DO in the primary care realm...... fun to follow (and if goes through I will be looking at some type of NP school....) DizzyJ
How has the "cathopathic" model been proven over 30 years when the word didn't even exist until this website came to be? So, not only NPs but also "qualified nurses" should also be able to be physicians. Just doesn't make any sense.
