Moderator EMEDPA Posted November 29, 2014 Moderator Share Posted November 29, 2014 Ebola update- did a bit of research today at the USAID site and others and found the following: Guinea #s have "stabilized" Liberia's #s are decreasing, however many feel this is because patients are not seeking treatment due to the feeling there that being treated in an ETU is "dehumanizing". This is bad news. it means folks are staying at home longer and exposing their families. Mali now has 8 cases. Sierra Leone #s continue to increase. This is far from over. 1 of my friends is over there now. 2 more go in January with Partners in Health.

Moderator EMEDPA Posted December 10, 2014 Moderator Share Posted December 10, 2014 New 1603 page spending bill attributing $5.4 billion in fighting for Ebola. Is this necessary? yes. thanks for asking. http://www.cnn.com/2014/04/04/world/gallery/ebola-in-west-africa/index.html?hpt=hp_bn2 This is money that needs to be spent. if you can't understand why read this: http://www.amazon.com/The-Coming-Plague-Emerging-Diseases/dp/0140250913 This is not: http://mrconservative.com/2012/03/2471-30-government-waste-projects/ (just searched stupid things govt spends money on. not a regular fan of this site). For example from above: The govt gives farmers 2 billion/yr not to grow anything on their land....
Torshi
I'll give that book a read. I noticed the author was awarded the 3 P's in journalism. And yes I've noticed the good amount of pork/unnecessary spending in every bill. Almost 2000 pages and representatives have to vote for it by tomorrow. yes. thanks for asking. http://www.cnn.com/2014/04/04/world/gallery/ebola-in-west-africa/index.html?hpt=hp_bn2 This is money that needs to be spent. if you can't understand why read this: http://www.amazon.com/The-Coming-Plague-Emerging-Diseases/dp/0140250913 This is not: http://mrconservative.com/2012/03/2471-30-government-waste-projects/ (just searched stupid things govt spends money on. not a regular fan of this site). Moderator EMEDPA Posted March 3, 2015 Moderator Share Posted March 3, 2015 Just had lunch with a friend who returned from Sierra Leone with Partners in Health. apparently they do take PAs, you just need to sign up as a physician and tell them at the interview that you are a pa. silly back door way in, but apparently workable. he said they still are having active cases there and PIH will continue to recruit and staff the center for the foreseeable future. PIH also pays a stipend + all travel expenses. wish I had known this a few months ago as I would have gone. I am at a point in my school now that I need to just finish a few requirements and be done before I consider further deployments. I have already committed to doing a trip to Haiti as team leader/mission coordinator in the fall after I graduate.
