girlyEMT92
My school is suggesting that we purchase "medical bags" for our supplies. Are your schools similar? DId you really carry yours on rotations, or did you just have your stethoscope handy?
akdEM
No and it would have been more of a nuisance than anything. I just carried my backpack to "work" each day and stashed it in the office or wherever. Stethoscope and maybe a quick reference pocket guide is all I ever carried. Koppma
I use a tool bag. Our school recommended for our nuero exam that we make or have someone make a med roll out of a pillow case with slots in it and put our supplies in it in the order we will be doing the exam. dmdpac
For school and clinical assessment testing we were required to have some sort of neuro testing kit. That was the only place I used it, though. Once out on rotations I, too, carried a stethoscope and a quick reference pocket guide. That was it.

GreatChecko
Its just turned into the place where I keep all the stuff they wanted me to buy (at home).
winterallsummer
Yep all I ever bring on rotations is my stethoscope which I wear around my neck, and if the rotation requires me to wear a white coat, then I keep it in my white coat. Rooms all have oto/optho scopes. On surgery I did need my pen light for PERRL testing which I kept in my pocket. For our neuro exam they recommended a tool kit. I just put my tuning fork and reflex hammer in my white coat pocket and shoved the extra crap (test tubes for scent) in a plastic bag. For sharp/dull sensory testing I used a q-tip in the exam room, broken in half. This is not the 1950s and no one needs a medical bag. When I brought lunch to work (which would be the only thing a medical bag would've ever been useful for) I just carried it in a plastic bag. When I did on-call for surg I had my extra clothes in a backpack.
girlyEMT92
Thanks for all the info, guys! I'm glad I didn't waste the money. Now it's time to make a decision on the ENT set! :)
cinntsp
We were required to have a lot of stuff for labs, exams, practicing, etc. and I'm not sure where I would have put it if not in a small bag. You won't need it on rotations but a $20 bag is probably not going to cut into your retirement.
