TWR Posted February 27, 2013 What would it take to design an EMR that is actually user friendly? I have practiced medicine for 26 years and would now like to do something with what I have learned to make an EMR "really" user friendly. Any thoughts?
jmj11 Posted February 27, 2013 The problem I run into the most is the "one size fits all" set up. The EMRs I've sued have all been too inflexible. I've rewritten ours as much as I can, but still the rigid framework adds hours to my day. If I were a family practice MD, it would fit much better.
Moderator EMEDPA Posted February 27, 2013 Moderator A system which allows dictation directly into the system without having to fill in blanks and allows one click d/c with rx option. a chart entry would look like this: h+P/results of dig.studies all dictated directly in and shows in real time. standard d/c instructions and rx for each d/o set up by user, easily changed in the case of allergies, etc done with one click. all soc. hx,meds/alleries/name of pcp, etc automatically fills in from prior visits but easily changed. minimal time spent typing.
