KalebPAS Posted January 11, 2024 Is there anywhere to find a list of residencies? I haven't had any luck finding some in the west Tennessee area. Quote
ohiovolffemtp Posted January 11, 2024 (edited) Veterans Affairs PA residencies: https://www.patientcare.va.gov/PA/Residency_Programs.asp ARC-PC list of accredited residencies: https://www.arc-pa.org/postgraduate-accreditation/currently-accredited-postgraduate-programs/ PA School Finder List: https://www.paschoolfinder.com/cat/postgraduate-pa-residency-program/ Googling physician assistant residency list provides many more. Not having gone to a residency program, I can't speak for any program or any of these lists. I do have a couple of thoughts: ARC-PA for awhile stopped accrediting residency programs then restarted doing so. Their accreditation likely means the program is well structured. A number of staffing companies have advertised what they call residencies or fellowships that are little more than lower paying OJT programs with little actual training other than some minimal lectures, etc. with no off service rotations, etc. I'd stay far away from them. Moderator EMEDPA Posted January 11, 2024 Moderator Which specialty are you interested in? www.appap.org has a pretty good list, but it is by no means inclusive of all programs. 2 Quote
kettle Posted January 14, 2024 ARC-PA accredited programs doesn't mean they are better than non accredited. They charge programs quite a bit of money to be accredited. Yes, the accredited ones meet specific qualifications to be accredited but several of the best residencies are not accredited. Look for a minimum of a 12 month program. Preferably longer. Has multiple off service rotations are are not using you for cheap labor 1 Quote

Can you please expand more on this? 1 Quote

Can you please expand more on this? There's some great residencies on that list but missing many that are great as well as they don't do the accreditation due to cost. Look at residencies that have multiple off service rotations, ones that offer education, ones without post residency contract obligations and typically ones paired with MD EM residencies 1 Quote
68WEMTto65DPAC Posted January 18, 2024 (edited) Atrium Health in Charlotte, NC seems to have a good program with multiple tracks to choose from both medical and surgical. Not too far from TN, maybe look into it. https://atriumhealth.org/education/center-for-advanced-practice/fellowships Edited January 18, 2024 by 68WEMTto65DPAC Quote

Can you please expand more on this? The list of accredited programs is pretty small at the moment (~17 from looking now). It does cost money, time, and all that. There are great programs that have not gone through the accreditation process. It's a nice feather in the cap to see when applying. At least someone else evaluated the program to ensure it's not BS and it's an actual residency. We do have a chunk of residencies/fellowships in name only. IMO, those places would definitely avoid any type of accreditation plans. Quote
