cbrsmurf
So my SP doesn't want me to use TTP (tender to palpation) and PNA (pneumonia) for charting. My SP states that these are not standard acronyms, yet every rotation and place I have worked at have used these. I am working in a private clinic, but is there an official list of acronyms of official abbreviations/acronyms somewhere?
Just Steve
Their sandbox, their rules. But JCAHO has a few things that they prefer not to see. http://www.jointcommission.org/assets/1/18/Do_Not_Use_List.pdf
Contrarian
TTP and PNA as you have used them above aren't "standard" abbreviations. Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP): is a blood disorder that causes blood clots to form in small blood vessels around the body. Peptide nucleic acid (PNA) : DNA analogs containing neutral amide backbone linkages composed of aminoethyl glycine units instead of phosphodiester linkage of deoxyribose groups; high stability and a high affinity for complementary DNA or RNA. Aurguing with the person who is required to sign your paycheck and documentation and therefore liable for all that it contains or omits seems to ME to be a "fools errand." So this is the "hill you want to die on" huh....????
Moderator ventana Posted October 13, 2012 Moderator Share Posted October 13, 2012 I used to use a ton-o-abbrev in charts not so much anymore - dragon makes it easy to speak an have full wors I have seen the danger in misunderstandings - "oops you mean the chest tube was supposed to go on the 'left? Crap""" (no kidding) just don't use them, spell it out....
