sumya.e
I called today and Susan said they filled all their spots for the program. Unless students drop out, the waitlist won't be used.
Genevieve
How is that possible? I interviewed on jan 20th and still have not yet heard back. I've got no letter or phone call? I don't know if I should call to inquire? It's almost 3 weeks. What should I do?
ajdev
I would wait it out some more. 1. There's still no guarantee that the waitlisted will accept if offered a spot - also, remember you have a certain amt of time to accept. 2. When I spoke to her last week, she said to give it until AT LEAST the end of this week.I WON'T freak until the mid of next wk.
papjs
Do you know approximately how many people are on the waitlist? When I spoke with Susan a few weeks ago, she said they rarely reject someone after an interview. So that would be about 120?
Genevieve
I'm on the alternate list. I never got my letter. I guess it was lost in the mail. I wonder how many people are on the alternate list. Man...its bitter sweet!
theredcliche
I also talked with Ms Owens this week and all she told me is that the last interview was Jan 20. She would not tell me how many spots had been filled or how they rank their waitlist.
theredcliche
Genevieve, I would call. I called a week after my interview, then a couple of other times. She never told me I was on the waitlist until I got my letter [i interviewed Sept 30 and got my letter around Nov 26]. I've been calling pretty regularly just asking for an update on my application and she always encourages me to call back if I don't hear something by some date. Genevieve
Theredcliche, thanks. I did call and I never got my letter in the mail. She scanned my letter and emailed it to me. I hope I make it in.
labcatis
Just wanted to let y'all know I gave up my seat in the class of 2014! Best of luck to whoever takes my place and to the entire LMU-DCOM Class of 2014. I believe LMU has a great program and I look forward to practicing with you. :)
ajdev
Really? If you don't mind, why did you drop from LMU?
MattK
Really? If you don't mind, why did you drop from LMU? judging by labcatis' tag, perhaps they were more interested in a surgical focus over the rural medicine focus at LMU.
labcatis
judging by labcatis' tag, perhaps they were more interested in a surgical focus over the rural medicine focus at LMU. First off, I believe LMU is a great up-and-coming program, and I have nothing negative to say it or the faculty and students. Yes, MattK and ajdev, the surgical focus was my primary reason in choosing UAB. In addition, UAB is a leader in medical research and health professions education. UAB has several teaching hospitals/clinics on campus and a Level 1 Trauma Unit. I also felt more comfortable committing to a more established program with lower tuition. While I really liked LMU and could easily see myself studying there, in the end UAB is a better fit for me and I'm very excited to be a part of their program. Mwilli5009
I commend labcatis for the kind words about LMU and the professionalism he has shown. I completely understand where you are coming from and I certainly wish you well in your studies at UAB.

ajdev
Way to go, Genevieve! What an amazing turnaround! - to go from being worried about not receiving anything from them to being accepted in only a few weeks! AWESOME! You can finally let your heart rest for a bit before excitement kicks in again to prepare. I am praying that a few more of us on that wait list are going to follow right behind you!
