SCPA
Totally ortho challenged. Would the following Fx require anything other than a few days of splinting in an 10 yr old M: "buckle fracture at the volar aspect of the proximal metadiaphysis of the third middle phalanx." Can't say i've ever encountered a torus fx in a finger.. THANKS!
RuralER/Ortho
Hard to tell without an X-ray to verify, but likely nothing other than splinting needs done.
MidwesternTexan
Agreed. However, more than a few days splinting! It can hurt for many weeks as the bone 'repairs' itself.
Administrator rev ronin Posted June 7, 2018 Administrator Share Posted June 7, 2018 When in doubt, never mess around with kids. I'd send for an ortho consult almost without fail. They can provide reassurance, direct the splinting type and duration, and, of course, authoritatively say surgery isn't needed.
