Everything in writing..nothing verbal ever...period. Hard copy by snail mail only. No texts, no emails, and never ever any phone calls. Don't go in for a chat if they invite you. It will be some kind of ambush. You need a lawyer even if it is one office consult for proper advice on how to proceed and protect yourself. It will be money well spent. Personally I'd be calling the board about this practice and this doc.... if 10% of what you say is true they are off the rails.
