First line Antimicrobials

Recommended Posts

So I'm in my first quarter of Pharm and was wondering if anyone has a good resource for finding the first line drugs for specific pathogens. My textbooks are good for listing the spectrum for each class, but I'd like to know the go-to drugs. Thanks!

Sanford Guide or EMRA are good.

I would recommend taking a few hours and making a list of 10 conditions that commonly present (UTI, sinusitis, otitis media, diabetic foot ulcer, MRSA skin infx, etc) and write down the most common pathogens and then top three treatments including dose. Knowing first line treatment is nice but you better know more than one as patients do like to pull that allergy card on you. It will save you during clinical year.
