FfIghter23
I know there are many on here that work in small community hospitals and even very rural departments. How often do you have, say, ophthalmology, urology, ENT, plastics available for call?

gbrothers98
If I need to just talk to someone on the phone for referral or advice, I have local specialists available rather readily unless on vacation, then nearby medical center. If someone needs to see one of them that day, transfer to the medical center 30 minutes away. G Brothers PA-C
Moderator EMEDPA Posted January 20, 2015 Moderator Share Posted January 20, 2015 at my 2 rural jobs most specialists are at least an hr away by ambulance, 20-30 min by helicopter. cath lab is 2 hrs away by ground, 45 min or so by air.
jen0508
Sort of rural 12 bed community ED. Always have Urology and ENT (based out of larger hospital 30min away. Sometimes they come, sometimes we transfer). Ophthalmology 0-5 days a week (seems completely random to me). No plastics
