Soybean
Hi, I was wondering if nutrition was taught as part of the curriculum. Maybe as part of clinical medicine or prevention classes? Some programs I looked at don't mention anything about it. Thanks!
marilynpac
My school did but it wasn't listed as nutrition, it was biochem. I'm glad we learned it, I still use those principals today. Our class was taught by Dr. Sandra Lee, and I can't say enough about her. She was really excited about teaching the class and it rubbed off on her students... andersenpa
Nutrition is emphasized in different clinical medicine units- GI, geriatrics, surgery, etc. You then apply it on rotations.
Administrator rev ronin Posted February 16, 2011 Administrator Share Posted February 16, 2011 Nutrition is also a great class to get in before PA school if you can. Nutrition (for non-science majors) might not be the toughest class in the world, but it is good info that you can use in primary care, and that will help show any AdCom that you're taking a broad variety of useful classes, not just hardcore sciences. I wish I'd had an opportunity to take a nutrition class before I started PA school.
chiaroscuro27
I took nutrition prior to PA school. It helped a great deal. However, you will get plenty of nutrition mixed in with your clinical medicine classes.

In other news, nutrition is super important, especially in overweight America!
Doc Savage
I took nutrition prior to PA school and it did have some good general anatomy of nutrition and some good info. Nutrition in our program mostly comes up in pharm and adult med.
