Good book for understanding lab values?

Recommended Posts

When you say, "deeper understanding," as you can imagine, each laboratory department tends to have a "bible" or two.  These are true textbooks and tend to be quite academic.  Every clinical lab program has texts associated with their coursework and rotations, as well.

CVP and SVV are not values dealt with in a clinical laboratory.  ABGs tend to be analyzed in a lab as laboratory personnel are cautious executors of quality control, however a respiratory text is probably appropriate to dig into ABG nuances (lab education focuses on alkalosis / acidosis).

I agree with the above that there isn't a good single book to understand lab values.  You would need to get 4-5 separate texts.  You may just want to google each of the common lab tests and read about what they are, the reference range, interpretations of high/low values, the physiology involved, how the tests are related, etc.
