Job #: 1496588
Job DescriptionJoin us as we embark on an exciting new adult primary care practice opportunity! Baystate Health is in the process of establishing a brand new practice in Springfield Massachusetts that will provide primary care to our patients as well as teaching opportunities for new graduate Advanced Practitioners (APs). This internal medicine practice will be led by two physicians and three experienced APs. An additional 1-2 new graduate nurse practitioners or physician assistants will join the practice every six months for intensive precepting designed to help them transition to practice at Baystate Health. Following 6 months at this practice, the new graduates will be hired permanently at one of Baystate's 12 primary care practices in western Massachusetts.

APs will work under the close supervision of the physicians providing integrated patient care. Some precepting duties will be fulfilled by an experienced AP trainer. The practice will emphasize team based care and the structure of a small practice will allow the flexibility for all employees to have strong input into developing best practices. Innovation is built into the practice and we hope to be able to integrate a number of new modes of care delivery including telephonic care and group medical visits within the first year. The lessons learned from this practice will serve as a model for AP use in the outpatient setting at Baystate. This is an opportunity for employees to be a part of something new, innovative, and high visibility that has the potential to make a big impact on both the patient and employee experience.

We are currently recruiting:

-1 full time Physician who is board eligible or certified in internal medicine, med/peds or family medicine who has strong interest and/or experience with teaching. This position is 50% clinical (not paneled) and 50% teaching.

-1 full time Advanced Practitioner with a minimum of 4 years of experience to serve as the lead AP trainer. This position includes 0.8 FTE for seeing a panel and 0.2 FTE for training.

-2 full time Advanced Practitioners with a minimum of 6 months experience who enjoy teaching and who will work permanently at this practice.

All providers will participate in call (by phone only) at this practice and will be expected to work one evening session a week. Baystate Health offers competitive salary, excellent benefits and a commitment to work/life balance.

This is a very interesting take on the whole residency/fellowship role

the first 4 months will be spent on an inpatient ward - dealing with really sick patients and figuring out what to do with them

then the next two blocks of 4 months are up to the PA - can do out patient, in patient.......

allows you to really see what the different job are, try them out, and get that critical first years experience in (and honestly this one year is likely worth 3-5 years)

there is a list of 'core procedures' you need to do and sim lab time available....
