Kbinvt
I think the more transparent we are as a profession the less likely we will be low balled and lose market value. Curious if anyone with experience and knowledge of Orthopaedic urgent care compensation wants to share. location: hours: hourly wage or salary specifics: 401 or 403: Cme: Days off: Call:
Moderator EMEDPA Posted February 20, 2014 Moderator Share Posted February 20, 2014 I assume you mean post-op clinic and fx clinic as "orthopedic urgent care". 2 places around here (pacific nw) use pas for this. both pay around 90k to start for full time hrs + a full benefits package. Kbinvt
Actually here in New England orthopedic groups are opening ortho urgent care centers. These establishments require no appointment. If you suffer a sprain, strain or have orthopedic injury you are evaluated rayed and referred to specialist already worked up. (other than limiting their scope to ortho). seems like a model for going out of business due to low volume. our affiliated urgent care center ses around 100 pts/day. if we took out all the non-ortho stuff our volume would probably be 20/day or so. GreatChecko
They are doing it around here as well, clinic during the day, walk-in's during the evenings. They probably couldn't do it full time, but the concept seems smart to me. https://ufhealth.org/orthocare
Moderator EMEDPA Posted February 21, 2014 Moderator Share Posted February 21, 2014 So it's an after hours clinic model open 6p-9p or something? I could see that working.
GreatChecko
That's what it looks like to me. Easy money for both the doc and the clinic.
Moderator ventana Posted February 22, 2014 Moderator Share Posted February 22, 2014 from my understanding not 24 hour clinic - but instead the high volume hours of when ortho injuries occur - late afternoon to mid eve and weekends Keeps the isolated ortho out of the ER and UC centers and allows the Ortho groups to see an manage first hand is driven by $$$ - easy to staff (takes one provider from clinic and commonly making the PA/NP do it) Gets lots of $$$ for the UC visit and then the splint/cast/closed reduction.... Exactly. In this area the competition grows larger every year, This is a model in which Ortho docs get direct referral of surical worthy canidates that have been pre screened and properly worked up prior. Its an avenue to corner the market with extended hours (8-8 M-F, 8-5 S). Due to the structure of the urgent care billables this is highly profitable and increases orthpods strength within their community. As a benefit to the system and patient a sprained ankle no longer requires 3 hr ED visit with on site eval imaging and treatment.
