NEPA
I just saw a news article that the MGH Institute is going to have a PA school starting in January 2015. So within two years there will be 3 new PA schools in the Boston area alone (Tufts, BU, MGH). Is it getting a little ridiculous how many new schools are popping up? Will this have a dramatic negative effect on job opportunities in the future?
Moderator EMEDPA Posted January 25, 2013 Moderator Share Posted January 25, 2013 there is a predicted shortage of medical providers for the forseeable future. I think all of these new grads will be able to find jobs but areas with lots of schools may have lower salaries requiring grads to head out to less populated areas...which is one of the reasons pas exist in the first place, to care for those in health provider shortage areas.... KMD16
I think what this will create overtime is lower salary for PAs.
KCMA79
For those wishing to stay in the Boston area it will glut the market and lower pay. There will be jobs for those willing to work on an indian reservation, prison or a rural clinic in the boondocks. For those PAs wanting to find jobs in areas with a plethora of programs and popular places to live like Boston, NYC, Orlando, LA, San Diego. San Francisco you will have problems.
