Central line guidewires

Anyone know if there are kits that contain the central line guidewire ONLY, and not all the extraneous stuff that goes into a normal kit? Does such a thing exist? Such a pain in the *** when the wire kinks/comes undone (it did yesterday for us during a code), and you have to break open a whole new kit just for the wire.

Definitely.

There are various wires...soft tip, micropuncture sets etc that you can use.

 

We developed a central line cart with all this stuff on it. Make a supply list and your central supply team can put it together.

Thanks andersen- I doubt my hospital system will go for a full "central line cart" (that sounds awesome), but I'll at least inquire about how to start the process of having a few pieces in storage when needed.

talk to the interventional radiology special procedures folks at your hosptial - can get just bout anything under the sun

 

 

HOWEVER last time i looked it was cheaper to open a second kit then open a wire......

It's a time and equipment saver. And more importantly, to be used in the name of patient safety (everything is there, no unnecessary delays...all your supplies/PPE is ready)

I'm actually amazed if hospitals DON'T use procedure carts nowadays. We have separate carts for

 

central line (includes dialysis lines)

A lines

balloon pump

temporary pacing

post arrest cooling
