BirdDogPA
I have been practicing for the past few months at a very rural critical access hospital doing emergency medicine. The hospital had only one local doc left who has had to resign due to health problems. There are no plans for another physician to come to this town so the hospital's solution is to use the ED docs and advanced practice providers as hospitalist. Does anyone know what the requirements are as for as a PA admitting someone to inpatient status? I have not been able to find a clear-cut answer since in all likelihood there would be days at a time when no physician would be physically in the hospital. Note: The hospital is owned by a large health system so the collaboration will be through internal medicine physicians at the big hospital about 30 miles away. UGoLong
In our area, who can admit is up to hospital regulations, I believe.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Yep, this will vary by state law, institution policy or insurance company policy.
DogLovingPA
What others have said. I don't know where you are, but I have a NP friend who does locums work in rural KS and often admits patients to himself from the ED (ie. he is both the ER provider and hospitalist while on).
