SCPA
Has anyone run in to commercial insurers not covering POC A1c testing for established diabetics? They will, instead, cover a1c in a blood draw? Why!?
camoman1234
I work in rural FM and we do POC lipids and A1C and get reimbursed. I am sure you know but you have to do them every 90+ days, sound like a coding error and not a reimbursement issue. Good luck and let me know! SCPA
rural FM here too... Yes q 3 months .. very strange. Our office manager told us we can no longer do POC a1c's on any commercially insured pt as it's "no longer covered"
camoman1234
Not true as we just went through this a few months ago cause we were getting denied for the Z13.1 and Z13.220 codes. We just bill with codes such as E11.9 or E11.21/22 or E11.41/42 etc. All those codes get paid as I get a monthly report.

camoman1234
They do not know what they are talking about so I assume lazy as you can quickly look this up and/or call the insurance to verify. Or even easier bill 1 out and keep track of that patient and see if it got paid.
